Damian Lewis Addresses James Bond Rumors: 'No One Has Called'
Ever since Daniel Craig eluded to not returning to the James Bond franchise, the big question on everyone’s mind is who will step into the role. Damian Lewis was on Today, where Savannah Guthrie brought up rumors about Lewis portraying international man of mystery James Bond. “Well, who wouldn’t like to play James Bond? It’s James Bond,” Lewis said in response to Guthrie’s question regarding whether he’d like to portray 007. “But … it’s a bit like meeting your heroes, you know? You have to be careful when you meet your heroes, whether they’ll disappoint you or not. Maybe one shouldn’t play one’s heroes either.”
Lewis is one of several actors whose names have been thrown around, including Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Tom Hiddleston, and Aidan Turner. But Lewis was quick to point out that although he’s in the conversation, it’s all hearsay at this point. “Look, no one’s called,” Lewis clarified. “I suspect actually that this chat has been going on for such a long time … that someone might have been called already.” Still, Lewis did joke with Guthrie that he’ll be waiting by the phone doing crunches just in case the call does come.
