Damon Wayans Shares the Cutthroat Way He and His Family Got So Funny
On Wednesday’s The View, Damon Wayans shared the trick his family played that made them so funny. The Wayans family has had a number of successful writers, directors, actors, and comedians. Damon Wayans explained that the kids played a game called Make Me Laugh or Die. Each of the kids would take turns trying to make the others laugh. If they failed to make all of the others laugh, they would “die.”
Wayans explained, “If you didn’t make us laugh, we’d pick your ‘die.’ And so the die would be, ‘Go drink my father’s beer in front of him.'”
Damon Wayans also shared the moment he knew his son, Damon Wayans Jr., was funny. He recalled: “He did a junior high school play, and it was called Our Town. He didn’t like his role. So, he decided he’s going be the pimp in Our Town.”
A pimp walking around in Thornton Wilder’s dramatic play sounds like a sketch that deserves to be in any reboot of In Living Color.
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. on ABC.
