Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown is set to embark on a new adventure, this time for the dark fantasy movie Damsel. Chronicling the tale of a princess who must fight for survival, Netflix (via Total Film) has unveiled a new image showing Brown’s Princess Elodie getting ready for intense action.

Brown will be playing a young princess who is set to marry a handsome prince. However, unbeknownst to her, she has been sacrificed in order to repay a long-standing debt. Without anyone to save her from a fire-breathing dragon, the princess does everything in her power to prove that she is not a damsel in distress.

“A dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. Thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive,” the synopsis for Damsel reads.

Millie Bobby Brown “understood” what needed to be done

Speaking with Total Film, director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo stated that Brown was able to convey the emotion they needed for the movie, calling her “exceptional.” The filmmaker added, “She understood that this needed to be an extreme survival experience. And in order to make that believable, you have to convey suffering and pain.”

Fresnadillo went on to say that they went above and beyond to make audiences feel the intensity of the story. He continued, “This is a movie about a transformation — about a girl becoming a woman — and you need to really feel the intensity of it. We didn’t want to cheat any of that, and that’s why we pushed all the limits to make this a huge roller coaster of an experience for the audience.”

Apart from serving as the feature’s main lead, Brown also executive produced Damsel through her PCMA Productions banner alongside Zack Roth, Chris Castaldi, and Wrath of the Titans scribe Mazeau. The rest of the film’s cast includes Nick Robinson, Angela Bassett, Ray Winstone, Robin Wright, Ulli Ackermann, Elmano Sancho, and Shohreh Aghdashloo.
