'Dance Moms: A New Era' Promises to Bring the Drama

Dust off your leotards, because a Dance Moms reboot is coming.

Dance Moms: A New Era brings back elements from its linear cable Lifetime predecessor, but with new faces, a new studio and a seemingly fresher attitude.

Moving from Pennsylvania to Virginia, it remains to be seen whether Dance Moms: A New Era will bring the star power of the original, which launched the careers of Maddie Ziegler and Jojo Siwa, to name a few, but one thing is clear from the trailers: From physical fights to relentless rehearsals, high-pressure stakes and injuries, it will definitely bring the drama.

Here's everything to know about Dance Moms: A New Era, including details about Abby Lee Miller's replacement.

Is there going to be a Dance Moms reboot?

Indeed there is! Dance Moms: A New Era will be a reboot of the beloved franchise focusing on the Studio Bleu Dance Center in Ashburn, Virginia, and its troupe's work towards (hopefully) nabbing a national title.

Why did Dance Moms end?

Dance Moms ended after Season 8, despite Abby Lee Miller saying there were plans for a ninth season — and that Lifetime had already confirmed that a spinoff centering around her was already greenlit.

The cancellation came after two Dance Moms alums accused Miller of racism in June 2020: Adriana Smith alleged that Miller led her and daughter Kamryn to quit the show because of racist comments she made, E! News reported. Days later, another mom, Camille Bridges, alleged that Miller treated her daughter, Camryn, differently and poorly because she was Black.

Miller apologized for her behavior, but between the racism allegations and her existing rap sheet (she spent nearly nine months behind bars for fraud), the damage to the franchise was done.

The coach of Dance Moms: A New Era is Gloria "Coach Glo" Hampton. Hampton is a dance instructor at Studio Bleu Dance Center in Ashburn, Virginia. She was previously featured in the original run of Dance Moms: In Season 3, Hampton and her daughter, Kaeli, appeared in an episode, and in Season 4, Hampton's studio beat Miller's team in a junior elite competition.

Hampton told PEOPLE that she respects Miller and has things in common with her, though what they each bring to Dance Moms is different.

"We are both tough teachers who expect a lot of our students, but we give a lot in return. The major difference is, I am a dance mom," Hampton said. "I have first-hand experience in raising a star! My daughter is a professional ballerina."

She added, "Abby was able to get amazing results by demanding the best with her booming voice and scary demeanor, while I often find I get results simply with a look. My eyes say it all and my students feeling as if they have disappointed me is much more motivating than me yelling at them."
