‘Dancing with the Stars’ Disney100 Night recap: A century of classic movies inspired the celebs in week 4 [LIVE BLOG]

“Disney Night” is a common theme on “Dancing with the Stars” since the ABC network is owned by the Disney corporation. But Tuesday night’s episode of the dance competition series had added significance because it celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Mouse House. So what happened in week four when the celebrities danced to songs from famous Disney properties from the past century? Follow our live blog below with all the minute-by-minute developments and commentary throughout the night.

Last week model Tyson Beckford was the third celebrity eliminated from the competition, leaving 11 to compete for the Len Goodman Mirror Ball Trophy: actress Xochitl Gomez, actress Alyson Hannigan, “Too Hot to Handle” star Harry Jowsey, “The Bachelorette” alum Charity Lawson, “Vanderpump Rules” star Ariana Madix, singer-songwriter Jason Mraz, NFL player Adrian Peterson, social media personality Lele Pons, Oscar winner Mira Sorvino, “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Mauricio Umansky and “Brady Bunch” actor Barry Williams.

As mentioned above, “Motown Night” ended with the ouster of Tyson after he landed at the bottom of the judges’ leaderboard. He clearly didn’t have enough viewer votes to save him, but we don’t actually know who was at the bottom with him. While “Premiere Night” and “Latin Night” ended by revealing the bottom two celebrities, “Motown Night” ended with Alfonso Ribeiro naming three celebrities who were at risk but not necessarily the bottom three. Along with Tyson, Alyson and Harry were in jeopardy. Were those two in trouble again tonight? Did we learn who was really at the bottom this time? Find out below starting at 8:00pm (times listed are Eastern).

SEE‘Dancing with the Stars” Disney100 Night will feature the season debut of 5 dance styles

Jeffrey Kare, 8:01pm — Nice tribute to Suzanne Somers.

Daniel Montgomery, 8:01pm — But weird opening the “Disney100” show with a random car commercial LOL.

JK, 8:02pm — Although I appreciated all the animated cameos.

JK, 8:04pm — I knew something was gonna be up with Bruno during this particular song.

Mauricio Umansky and Emma Slater (Paso Doble)

DM, 8:08pm — Ooh, sounds like the dances will be organized chronologically by movie. I like that. Getting started with “Fantasia” from the 1940s. But I’m a little concerned for Mauricio doing a paso doble.

JK, 8:09pm — Sounds like a nice touch.

DM, 8:11pm — Needed a little more grace. He kinda walked and stomped through parts of it.

JK, 8:11pm — Pretty lazy if you ask me. They couldn’t have found a way to make those broomsticks dance?!

JUDGESDerek Hough thought it was fantastic, the frame was good, he was an “adorable matador.” Bruno Tonioli thought he polished the dance floor to perfection. He still needs to extend his shapes and fill the space a little more. Carrie Ann Inaba thought it was amazing, she’s proud of him, it got better as it went along.

DM, 8:13pm — I’m a little surprised those comments were so totally positive.

JK, 8:13pm — So am I.

SCORES — Carrie Ann (7), Derek (6), Bruno (6) = 19 out of 30

DM, 8:14pm — Those 6s were about what I thought that deserved.

JK, 8:15pm — Although the 7 was a little much in my opinion.

Cordell Martin, 8:15pm — I agree.

Mira Sorvino and Gleb Savchenko (Waltz)

DM, 8:18pm — Time for “Cinderella.” An elegant waltz themed after “Cinderella” should be comfortably in her wheelhouse. I feel like a graceful ballroom routine suits her personality more naturally.

DM, 8:21pm — Her best dance, a very natural fit for her.

CM, 8:21pm — Yes she needed this.

JK, 8:22pm — Very elegant with a clever finish!

JUDGES — Bruno calls it elegant and soft, ballroom suits her, she should trust in herself and let herself be swept away. Carrie Ann thought she was giving queen energy, she was sure-footed, she looked freer and elegant. Derek has been waiting for this style of dance for her, it was clean, classic and care-free.

SCORES — Carrie Ann (7), Derek (7), Bruno (7) = 21 out of 30

DM, 8:24pm — I dunno, I thought that was worth at least one 8.

JK, 8:25pm — Let’s at least hope this is a literal “Cinderella” story for her.

Barry Williams and Peta Murgatroyd (Jazz)

DM, 8:28pm — A “Lady and the Tramp” jazz routine. Barry’s big personality should eat this up. And it turns out he has experience in this style, having played “Pippin” for Bob Fosse.

JK, 8:29pm — Now we’ve made it to 1955 (just like Marty McFly).

DM, 8:31pm — A little underwhelming, and Peta’s cartwheel was an epic fail. He’ll probably be safe, though.

CM, 8:32pm — Yeah not Barry’s best dance.

JK, 8:32pm — I thought it at least had some class.

JUDGES — Carrie Ann thinks he has charm, and it was his best dance, but the lift failed and he lost time. Derek agrees there were a few fumbles and mistakes, but he’s charming and will hopefully be better next week. Bruno thought his hands got muddled, but he covered the mistakes well.

SCORES — Carrie Ann (6), Derek (6), Bruno (6) = 18 out of 30

DM, 8:38pm — The 6s were kind. I thought he’d get 5s.

CM, 8:38pm — Me too.

Jason Mraz and Daniella Karagach (Foxtrot)

DM, 8:38pm — This is their first time dancing ballroom, but if he could handle jive, I think this should be no problem. I don’t worry about him anymore.

JK, 8:39pm — Looks like we’re not going in chronological order after all.

DM, 8:40pm — I think they’re gonna fudge the chronology by talking about the live-action remakes.

DM, 8:40pm — I think Jason has been better. He was a little stiff in that dance.

JUDGES — Derek thought it was a whole new Jason, but he needs to use his legs more. Bruno thought it had a regal attitude. Carrie Ann thought it was completely different from what we’ve seen so far. She could tell he wasn’t as comfortable as he has been in the past, but the details were beautiful.

SCORES — Carrie Ann (8), Derek (8), Bruno (8) = 24 out of 30

DM, 8:44pm — I feel mean tonight, but I might have given that a 7 LOL. Jason is still my favorite in the competition, though.

Lele Pons and Brandon Armstrong (Rumba)

DM, 8:48pm — Her issue has been out of control energy. But with a rumba she has no choice but to rein it in. I think she has a lot of natural ability. I hope she can channel that this week with “The Lion King.”

DM, 8:51pm — Another winner, I think that was Lele’s best dance by far.

JK, 8:51pm — Magnificent!

JUDGES — Bruno thought she corrected everything he told her, her extensions were not wobbly, it was sensual and sophisticated, her core was stronger. But she needs to work on her legs. Carrie Ann loves that she’s taking the corrections. She had great posture and looked like a princess. Derek lost his train of thought when Carrie Ann interrupted him to mention a lift.

SCORES — Carrie Ann (7), Derek (7), Bruno (8) = 22 out of 30

JK, 8:54pm — Derek picked up the wrong number.

DM, 8:54pm — LOL, Derek bobbling his paddle, raising the wrong one.

Alyson Hannigan and Sasha Farber (Jazz)

DM, 8:58pm — I have no idea how this is going to go. Alyson has soooo much potential, she’s been getting progressively better despite last week’s setback of getting ill. But jazz can be so many different things. I hope he plays to her strengths with his choreography.

DM, 9:01pm — I think Aly has been better in previous weeks. Not the strongest choreography.

CM, 9:02pm — Yes. Really disappointed with this routine.

JK, 9:02pm — It was OK. Definitely had its moments.

JUDGES — Carrie Ann thinks she gets so animated that she loses the timing, and her movements were a little limited. Derek gives her credit for navigating the pompadour in the dance, but the routine lacked content. Bruno thought it was a feast of fun, the acting was spot-on, but she needs to put the steps exactly to the music.

SCORES — Carrie Ann (6), Derek (6), Bruno (6) = 18 out of 30

DM, 9:04pm — Alyson kinda reminds me of Kate Flannery from a few seasons back. She has a similar really bright, shining personality.

DM, 9:05pm — I’m a little worried for her though with those scores. Her fan base is going to be tested.

JK, 9:06pm — Agreed.

Harry Jowsey and Rylee Arnold (Quickstep)

DM, 9:08pm — This could be his most demanding dance. It’s fast, a lot of steps. Even Rylee admits he’s a bit heavy on his feet.

DM, 9:10pm — That dance was rough around the edges — like, all the edges — but I can’t be mad at him.

JK, 9:11pm — Not surprised to see Rylee upstaging him again.

JUDGES — Derek thought he was really connected to the dance, he loved it. Bruno thought the character was perfect and he was having fun out there, which made him smoother, but he wasn’t always on the beat. Carrie Ann thinks he has something joyous when he dances, despite a few tiny missteps.

SCORES — Carrie Ann (7), Derek (7), Bruno (7) = 21 out of 30

DM, 9:13pm — Harry is a lovable lug, but those 7s are totally out of pocket. WTF

CM, 9:13pm — Really? Oh no.

JK, 9:14pm — Way over-scored.

Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy (Paso Doble)

DM, 9:17pm — Okay, let’s get the night back on track. Go get it, Xochitl.

DM, 9:18pm — Sigh, another car commercial LOL.

DM, 9:21pm — Xochitl has out of this world charisma, totally understands the character of each dance, and such confidence of movement.

CM, 9:22pm — Another amazing performance from Xochitl.

JK, 9:22pm — Outstanding!

JUDGES — Bruno thought she captured the vibrancy of Mexico while handling a double-speed paso doble. Carrie Ann thought it was unbelievable. It was fast and dynamic and she was in her power, but in an animated and light way. Derek thought she was an artist and the floor was her canvas.

SCORES — Carrie Ann (9), Derek (9), Bruno (9) = 27 out of 30

DM, 9:27pm — Deserved scores.

CM, 9:27pm — Well deserved.

JK, 9:28pm — I have a feeling a 10 could be coming for someone next week.

Adrian Peterson and Britt Stewart (Viennese Waltz)

DM, 9:28pm — Okay, let’s see if Adriana is graceful at all. He’s got some heavy feet.

DM, 9:30pm — Not bad.

CM, 9:31pm — Wow. I think he’s going to get a few 7s.

JK, 9:31pm — Definitely one of his better dances.

JUDGES — Carrie Ann thought he danced from his heart, it was the most touching dance of the night, it had elegance and refinement, his face and shoulders were relaxed. Derek gives a standing ovation, he has transformed in his face and the way he carries himself, he’s finding new strength in stillness, the dance moved him. Bruno thinks he’s found his wings and taken flight, much lighter and extended his lines.

SCORES — Carrie Ann (7), Derek (7), Bruno (7) = 21 out of 30

DM, 9:33pm — I’d say those scores are fair.

CM, 9:33pm — I agree.

JK, 9:34pm — Ditto.

CM, 9:34pm — Barry, Alyson or Mauricio will make up the bottom two.

JK, 9:35pm — I can see that happening.

DM, 9:35pm — I can see it too. Mira too maybe in a surprise if people think she’s safe.

Ariana Madix and Pasha Pashkov (Contemporary)

DM, 9:37pm — Contemporary is usually a style that boosts scores. Coming off of last week’s high scores, I think she’ll do just fine.

DM, 9:40pm — That was above-average contemporary. Her scores will be good. 8s and 9s maybe.

CM, 9:41pm — Another great dance.

JK, 9:41pm — Breathtaking!

JUDGES — Derek thought it was fantastic with beautiful movement and choreography. Bruno thought it was dramatic and in character, she showed determination to succeed. Carrie Ann thought she brought the story to life, but she would have liked to see more freedom of movement.

DM, 9:42pm — I think I agree with Carrie Ann.

CM, 9:42pm — One 8 and two 9s?

SCORES — Carrie Ann (8), Derek (9), Bruno (8) = 25 out of 30

JK, 9:43pm — Close, but no cigar.

DM, 9:43pm — Close. I agree with the 8s.

Charity Lawson and Artem Chigvintsev (Viennese Waltz)

DM, 9:46pm — A “Little Mermaid” waltz sounds like a perfect style for her, though Artem thinks she needs more intensity during the clip package. I don’t foresee a problem, though.

DM, 9:49pm — Not a step out of place that I could see. Took a little too long to get into the dance, but it was rock solid when she was in it.

CM, 9:50pm — I thought it was a solid routine. Wasn’t blown away. I’ll give it an 8.

JK, 9:50pm — Really good work.

JUDGES — Bruno thought it was a wonderful, uplifting waltz. Carrie Ann thinks she did it justice and brought it to life in the most beautiful way. Derek calls her reliable and consistent, and she fixed her arm.

SCORES — Carrie Ann (8), Derek (8), Bruno (8) = 24 out of 30

JUDGES’ LEADERBOARD

1. Xochitl Gomez — 27
2. Ariana Madix — 25
3. Charity Lawson — 24
3. Jason Mraz — 24
5. Lele Pons — 22
6. Harry Jowsey — 21
6. Adrian Peterson — 21
6. Mira Sorvino — 21
9. Mauricio Umansky — 19
10. Alyson Hannigan — 18
10. Barry Williams — 18

CM, 9:54pm — So there will be a judge’s save this season.

DM, 9:54pm — Yeah, they keep mentioning a judges’ save even though there hasn’t been one yet, so I guess they’re building up to one.

JK, 9:54pm — Let’s hope so.

RESULTS

DM, 9:57pm — Okay, let’s hope they actually give us the real bottom two. Safe celebs are Harry Jowsey (no surprise there), Mauricio Umansky (a little surprising), Xochitl Gomez (duh) and Jason Mraz (duh). Also safe are Mira Sorvino (good for her!), Charity Lawson (duh), Ariana Madix (duh), Alyson Hannigan (hooray!). Eliminated from the competition is … Adrian Peterson.

CM, 10:00pm — Who is voting for Mauricio?

JK, 10:01pm — Not me.

JK, 10:01pm — Just when Adrian started to get better. Although I’m not too sad to see him go.

CM, 10:01pm — Wow, Lele better step it up.

DM, 10:02pm — I think Lele was fine. Another not-really-bottom-three. I really hate the way they’re announcing results all of a sudden.

JK, 10:03pm — Yeah.
