Danny Clinch Transparent Gallery raising funds for rocker Jesse Malin
The plight of rocker Jesse Malin is the focus of the Transparent Clinch Gallery in Asbury Park.
Malin, a featured performer at the annual Light of Day Parkinson's benefit in Asbury Park, suffered a spinal stroke in May that left him unable to walk. The Transparent Clinch Gallery, which features the work of celeb rock photographer Danny Clinch, is selling three Malin-related images to raise money for the Malin Sweet Relief fund, which defrays costs of medical treatment.
“The kindest and most generous guy I know, a rock 'n' roll historian who is always supporting and doing good for his friends and community,” Clinch posted. “Unfortunately as you may have heard, Jesse suffered a stroke recently and is unable to walk. We are doing this print sale with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Jesse at his Sweet Relief fundraiser to help cover his medical bills. We want you to join us on this journey for our good friend Jesse Malin.”
The images feature Malin and Bruce Springsteen, a portrait of Malin, and a concert shot of Springsteen. They're signed by Clinch and start at $250 for 8-by-10-inch prints. Visit transparentclinchgallery.com.
The 56-year-old Malin is wheelchair-bound and undergoing physical therapy at a New York City rehab center. A spinal chord stroke is caused by “arteriosclerosis or a thickening or closing of the major arteries to the spinal cord,” according to the National Institutes of Health.
“I’m working really hard, physically and spiritually, doing my best,” said Malin in a June 29 social media post. “I miss everybody, and I miss being outside, but I will get there. Thanks for all the prayers, and well wishes, all the messages. Every single one means the world to me.”

Malin first played Asbury Park with his former band D-Generation at the Fast Lane. He's steeped in the scene and has recorded with Bruce Springsteen (“Broken Radio” in 2007) and Matty Carlock of Middletown on Carlock's “Young and (Blanked) Up” in 2019.
Malin's most recent show at the Jersey Shore was in January at the Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank as part of the Light of Day Bob's Birthday Bash at the venue.
“He's a wonderful guy, he's a sweetheart,” said Light of Day director Tony Pallagrosi. “He's been a wonderful friend of the Light of Day for decades. What happened is obviously horrible. Jesse's a fighter. He's a guy who does his thing and he's kind of unstoppable so we're sure he's going to bring that to bear on this challenge ... I have no doubt that he will overcome this.”
