From Daring To Dapper: Best Dressed Men At The 2024 Met Gala
Elegant gowns and silky slips are not the only looks to capture onlookers at the 2024 Met Gala. On Monday night (May 6), men famous for their skills in sports, music, entertainment, and more put their best foot forward in perfectly tailored suits, dramatic capes, and bold beauty looks at the annual event. The dress code for the evening was The Garden of Time, requesting attendees to find inspiration from a short story of the same title written by J.G. Ballard in 1962.
According to VOGUE, the theme provided space for several interpretations including melancholic florals, the main character Count Axel’s black velvet and silk cravat, time and timepieces, and nature in fashion. This year’s dress code differed from The Costume Institute’s spring exhibition theme, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.
“This exhibition broke my cardinal rule,” explained Anna Wintour, one of this year’s Costume Institute Benefit and Met Trustees to Today ahead of the event. “When we came up with the title ‘Sleeping Beauties,’ it’s wonderful and poetic and romantic, but actually, it could be many, many things.”
She continued to detail, “So, I fear that we’ve unleashed a lot of confusion out there, and for which I deeply apologize.”
Still, despite any possible misunderstandings, the red carpet overflowed with style and pizzazz. This year, among the standout aesthetics, included several men achieving both daring and dapper looks. Luxurious jewels, subtle makeup, intricate prints, and timeless all-black suits were prominent among the men who stepped out at the 2024 Met Gala.
