David Fincher’s Next Film Reportedly a Western Crime Thriller

David Fincher’s next film has been detailed - and it looks set to be another Netflix exclusive.

The director of Gone Girl and Seven is following up 2023’s The Killer with Beetroot, according to WhatsOnNetflix. Said to be a western crime thriller, it follows an aging rancher who, upon having his life savings stolen by thieves, pledges to hunt them down. Making things slightly more complicated is his sheriff son who’s hot on his tail.

“Sources tell us that it’s made in the vein of the Clint Eastwood classic Unforgiven,” writes the outlet. Apparently, Michael Gilio is on-board as the writer, having previously penned the well-regarded Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

Netflix has declined to comment on the story, so it may be a while before the streamer officially unveils Beetroot. After all, The Killer only came out 3rd September 2023, so Beetroot likely barely has a working script yet.

It’s not Fincher’s only project, however. He’s also producing the US spin-off of Squid Game, which is rumored to be titled Squid Game: America. Also, here are David Fincher’s films ranked.

It’s the latest in a long line of Fincher/Netflix collaborations, which started in the late 2010s with Mindhunter and House of Cards. He also directed the Oscar-nominated Mank, and is an executive producer on animated anthology series Love, Death and Robots.
