David Lee Roth will hit Las Vegas for a reduced number of farewell shows.

David Lee Roth's retirement may have come sooner than planned.

After canceling his New Year's Eve and New Year's Day performances at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, the veteran Van Halen frontman has also nixed the remaining concerts from his previously announced farewell shows.

A spokesperson for the venue confirmed to USA TODAY Roth's shows have been canceled "amid coronavirus concerns," the same reason given for his cancelations over the holiday weekend.

Roth was scheduled for seven more shows at House of Blues, with dates scattered from Wednesday to Jan. 22.

Ticket sales for the concerts had been robust, with Roth - known for his rock star flair - announcing in December that a few more dates were added to accommodate demand.

In his October interview, Roth surprised fans when he dropped his retirement news.

“This is the first, and only, official announcement. You’ve got the news. Share it with the world,” he said.

In the same interview, Roth reflected on the loss of longtime bandmate Eddie Van Halen, who died in October 2020 after a long battle with throat cancer, and made a cryptic comment about his own health.

“I am encouraged and compelled to really come to grips with how short time is," Roth said, "and my time is probably even shorter."
