David Letterman has a burning question for President Trump: 'When did you become a goon?'
Late night legend David Letterman stopped by The View on Friday, and opened up about one of the panel’s frequent “Hot Topics” subjects, President Donald Trump.
Letterman sat down with the co-hosts to promote the second season of his Netflix series, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, which features interviews with Kanye West and Ellen DeGeneres, among others.
Letterman discussed his frequent guests, calling out Trump’s numerous appearances on his previous shows over the years. He the president an “excellent guest,” noting he almost always received a standing ovation.
“He could take a punch pretty good and I think he just liked being on TV and he was an excellent guest for somebody I could just beat up on,” Letterman said.
The semi-retired interviewer also shared that he always felt Trump was a “goofball” and a “bonehead,” which co-host Whoopi Goldberg shot back, “a word I use a lot with him.”
But Letterman also revealed that he feels Trump has changed over the years. “He seemed just like a guy, right?” he asked. “Were I ever to get the chance to talk to him in person — and I won’t live long enough for that to happen — but I would say ‘When did you become a goon? When did that happen? You used to be just like a guy’” he added.
Joy Behar agreed, adding, “He was just someone who came on the show, a New York character, but you know what they say, but power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely and that’s what he’s into.”
Some viewers on Twitter agreed with Letterman that there’s been a change in Trump’s personality over the years, and were happy to see Letterman point that out:
When Donald Trump would call into the Live with Regis and Kathy show, he DID seem like a regular guy, but something has changed. As Letterman said "He is a goon" and nobody seems to see the change
