Dawn Staley receives Coca-Cola care package after confessing love for Mexican cherry cola
South Carolina women's basketball coach Dawn Staley let the world know her love for Mexican Coca-Cola Cherry on social media on Sunday during her visit to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
And when one of sports' most successful coaches speaks highly of your product, the brand naturally has to jump at the opportunity. As Staley shared on X (formerly Twitter), she received a care package from Coca-Cola on Tuesday. The gift included a vintage shirt, pins and, of course, the Mexican Coca-Cola Cherry she loves.

"Dawn, we heard you are a big fan of Coca-Cola and we are big fans of you!" the letter from the package read. "Hopefully this makes your time in Paris even more special. Cheers!"
Staley replied with a message: "@CocaCola thank you so much for sending over this package of love! Bottled Cherry Coke... thirst quenching. The set of Coca-Cola Olympic pins... pin quenching. The vintage Coca-Cola tshirt... a must have. ... Set for the rest of the games! CHEERS!"
The story originated when Staley shared a picture to X on Sunday of her striking gold by finding Mexican Coca-Cola Cherry bottles in Paris, which she mentioned she had struggled to find in the United States. She even said she found "the paradise of drinks."
Staley, who became the Gamecocks' coach in 2008, has built the program into one of the most successful teams in college sports. She has won three national championships, including the most recent in 2024, which capped off a perfect undefeated season for the team.
She's also an Olympic legend, as she was a part of three gold-medal winning teams with the United States in 1996, 2000 and 2004. The six-time WNBA All-Star coached A'Ja Wilson, one of the leaders of the current United States women's basketball roster.
