DDG Is Ready To Defend Son Halo In “Shoot Up Your Block” Music Video
DDG and Halle Bailey’s infant son, Halo, glows at the center of his father’s world in the rapper’s latest music video.
Directed by LewisYouNasty, the visual for “Shoot Up Your Block” finds the Michigan native making bottles with freshly manicured hands, packing a Gucci baby bag, and sharing intimate moments holding and carrying his baby.
While the track’s name might be violent, the 26-year-old declares his willingness to cross that line is motivated by the protection of his growing family.
“My son custom down to the chain to the fu**in’ bib/ I’m not affiliated with gangs, but for him I’ll spin,” melodically rhymes DDG. “When it comes to my son and my fam you’ll get popped/Shoot up your block.”
The Little Mermaid star and the “She Don’t Play” performer publicly announced the birth of their child earlier this year after keeping the pregnancy private, despite rumors. The couple has been dating since March 2022.
“This is one of my biggest accomplishments and I wasn’t able to show it for real for real, but it was for a better cause ’cause people weird,” explained the rapper of their joint decision to keep their pregnancy behind the scenes.
He added, “People are way too many in my business, our business, at this point in time. So, definitely for the better and it made it a lot easier, bringing him into the world without a bunch of opinions.”
The 23-year-old shared similar sentiments on Thursday (March 7) when accepting ESSENCE‘s Black Women In Hollywood honor.
“There was no way in hell I was going to share the biggest joy of my world with anyone. Halo was my gift. He is the greatest blessing, and I had no obligation to expose him, me, or my family to that,” emotionally shared the first-time mom, as per PEOPLE.
“With the state of the world and the place it is in with men trying to force their will on our bodies, no one on social media, and for damn sure, no one on the planet, was going to tell me what to do with my body or what to share with the world.”
