Hilary Swank, Mariska Hargitay, and Debra Messing BFF It Up — at U.S. Open and Beyond

Hilary Swank, Mariska Hargitay, and Debra Messing know that keeping track of games, sets, and matches is a heckuva lot more fun when you are with your best friends.

The actresses enjoyed a weekend of tennis — and selfies — at the U.S. Open in Queens, N.Y. Over two days, they hung out, separately and together, in the stands, in a posh suite, and during post-tennis cocktails at Ralph Lauren’s Polo Bar in NYC, where they celebrated Hilary’s new fashion line and debated what their celebrity nickname should be: “#Debriska #Hilariska #Debrary?” Hargitay mused.

So how did #Debriska come about? This friendship has deep roots. When Law & Order: SVU star Hargitay received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013, both Swank and Messing — along with Maria Bello — were there. In her speech, Hilary talked about meeting Mariska on the set of ER 15 years earlier and developing a friendship, which is now going on 20 years. Hilary said her life was forever changed when they met. She said Mariska has a “soul so full of light” and described her as a “faithful and remarkable friend.”

As for Hargitay and Messing, they were fans of each other’s work before becoming besties. “We fell in love from a distance about five years ago and just had this mad girl crush on each other and became good friends,” Hargitay said during a 2011 joint interview with Messing. “Then our sons became very close friends.” Mariska and Debra were also together on Friday night, when they attended an LGBT fundraiser that included a performance by Barbra Streisand.

Last summer, Mariska was adopted into Taylor Swift’s girl squad, appearing in the video for “Bad Blood” and even hitting the stage with the singer. We’re not sure why she did that. She has her own squad — and it seems like a very solid one.
