Decluttering guru Marie Kondo's advice about tossing out books inspires funny Twitter responses
Marie Kondo and her buzzy new Netflix show, Tidying Up With Marie Kondo, are getting bad reviews from book lovers.
The unscripted show, which debuted Jan. 1, features Kondo helping people who want to put all their stuff in order and make their lives more harmonious. She uses the KonMari Method that she introduced in her 2014 book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, in which people determined which belongings to rid themselves of by throwing out anything that doesn’t “spark joy.”
(In case you’re wondering, Kondo suggested just last month that people also toss her book after they’ve used it.)
As you can imagine, none of this sat well with avid readers. They wisely noted that books are works of art, not just another replaceable object.

In fact, some of the backlash inspired another backlash from people who thought the book supporters were being too dramatic.

I have not watched the Marie Kondo show, but based on what I’m seeing on Twitter, I feel I need to loudly and clearly declare: I am a librarian. I love books. I 100% stand behind the idea of getting rid of books. I have, in fact, THROWN AWAY BOOKS!

I’ve been out & about today so have missed most of the day’s controversies but did someone suggest Marie Kondo is bad for telling people to get rid of books they don’t read
