Dee Snider calls out NFL for ignoring ‘heavy music’ for Super Bowl halftime show: ‘No respect’
The NFL made a big announcement on Thursday when it revealed that Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will be the performers at Super Bowl LIV in 2020. But Dee Snyder is not on board with the booking and called out the league for ignoring “heavy music.”
The Twisted Sister frontman took to Twitter just after the two performers were publicly confirmed to express that the genre of music that “rocks the stadiums week after week, game after game is completely ignored.” The reason why, he theorized, is because rock musicians “don’t shake our a** enough!”
WTF!? @shakira and @jlo for this year's @nfl halftime show!? Once again the great heavy music that rocks the stadiums week after week, game after game is completely ignored. I guess we don't shake our ass enough!!

My point about this years @NFL halftime show isn’t a slight on @shakira or @JLo, it’s frustration that week after week rock is the go to music during games but gets no respect when it comes to the Super Bowl! And I don’t think I’m popular enough for that slot. But @Metallica...

Snider went on to say that his comment wasn’t a “slight” on either of the women chosen for the performance. Instead, he wrote that he was just expressing his frustration.
According to the responses that his tweets amassed, many agree with his point.
PREACH!!!

Hey @deesinder Don't need to explain yourself, we understood what you said and you are absolutely right, they play rock music during games, you'd expect the same on a bigger scale on the top show. No respect.

Twisted Sister could do some amazing mash ups with other metal artists. With the right pyrotechnics and choreography, it could be a halftime show to end all halftime shows.

The fact that you have to explain your perfect valid point is just as ridiculous as the people in charge of selecting the performers.... BTW, you could perfectly fill that spot...

Dee for halftime 🤘. We think and know you're good enough to steal the show.

It's been like this longer than I care to remember. It needs to change and I'm not holding my breath.

It wasn’t the first time that Snider has aired his grievances over Super Bowl halftime shows. During Maroon 5’s performance for the 2019 Super Bowl, Snider tweeted a list of popular songs played during football games, all of which were from the rock genre.
Hey @NFL! Your go-to songs at EVERY game are metal: Enter Sandman, Cum On Feel the Noise, Thunder, Crazy Train, We're Not Gonna Take It, We Are the Champions, Final Countdown, I Wanna Rock, We Will Rock You, Welcome to Jungle. NONE of those bands have EVER played half-time show!

“NONE of those bands have EVER played half-time show!” he tweeted.
Still, people defended the NFL’s choice to have two Latina artists headline the performance at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on Feb. 2, 2020.
Shakira plays more instruments than you do, Dee 😂 They went through a phase where they were bringing in older rock bands, and were they especially memorable? No. It’s in Miami this year and they brought in Latin artists.

Well if ya all don't like it, do not watch it then. Just respect and tolerate. If you are as big as @shakira and @JLo someday you will rock a SB stadium, meanwhile stay to your home seeing how 2 Latin pop stars do it.
