Demi Moore Gave a Rare Look Into Her Routine With Bruce Willis & How She Stays Positive
Demi Moore and Bruce Willis found a way to do conscious uncoupling years before Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin made it trendy. They’ve managed to take their big, blended family with their three adult children, Rumor, 36, Scout, 33, and Tallulah, 30, and merge it with his second wife, Emma Heming, and their two kids, Mabel, 12, and Evelyn, 9. That friendship has become even more crucial in the wake of his diagnosis for frontotemporal dementia.
Moore gave an update to CBS Sunday Morning on Sept. 22 about her ex-husband’s health and how they are interacting with his declining condition. “The important thing is just to meet him where he’s at as opposed to being attached to who he was [and] how he was,” she explained. “That only puts you in a place of loss versus being in the present [and] meeting him where he’s at and finding the joy and the loving of all that is where he is.”

It’s sweet advice for anyone dealing with a loved one suffering from a brain disease. The 61-year-old actress’ words have resonated with care and love while she’s promoting her new film, The Substance — everyone wants to know how Willis is doing since he no longer is in the public eye. “Given the givens, he’s in a stable place,” Moore shared with Drew Barrymore on The Drew Barrymore Show on Friday, Sept. 13. “When I’m in L.A., I go over every week and I really treasure the time that we all share.”
Willis retired from his prolific career in 2022 after he was diagnosed with aphasia, which impacted his ability to speak and communicate. The disease progressed to frontotemporal dementia by February 2023 which has further diminished his cognitive health. His entire family showed a united front after his diagnosis two years ago — they are all in when it comes to taking care of Willis. “Demi and the kids … rally round Bruce, whom she still adores, and it really touches her soul how loving and selfless their kids have been toward their dad as he copes with his situation the best he possibly can,” a source told Us Weekly in March 2023.
Moore was married to Willis from 1987 until 2000. He married Heming in 2009, and they all became “a family who are as close and respectful toward each other as you could imagine.” The group was not without criticism though, a March 2022 profile in the Los Angeles Times noted that many people in the entertainment industry had concerns about Willis going back to 2020. He was struggling to remember lines and understand why he was on set.
“It was less of an annoyance and more like: ‘How do we not make Bruce look bad?’” one source told the media outlet. “Someone would give him a line and he didn’t understand what it meant. He was just being puppeted.” Those questions were finally answered when the family shared Willis’ diagnosis, but some Hollywood insiders think they let him work for too long. “We are all Bruce Willis fans and the arrangement felt wrong and ultimately a rather sad end to an incredible career,” summed up director Jesse V. Johnson. “One that none of us felt comfortable with.”
