Demi Moore Reportedly Doesn't Love the Idea That Channing Tatum Is Remaking 'Ghost'
On July 13, 1990, the movie Ghost, starring Demi Moore and the late Patrick Swayze, was released. It not only became a box office hit, earning over $505 million, but it was also an Oscar-winning moment for Whoopi Goldberg. Now, Channing Tatum is lining up to do a remake of the movie, and not everyone is happy about that.
The film follows a murdered banker (Swayze) who tries to contact his girlfriend (Moore) about the danger in her life through the use of a medium (Goldberg). In January 2023, Tatum revealed to Vanity Fair that he had “the rights to Ghost” and was interested in playing Swayze’s role. “But we’re going to do something different,” he noted about the film’s racial stereotypes. “I think it needs to change a little bit.”

In 2024, the remake is reportedly “chugging along and picking up steam,” according to a Life & Style source. That’s where Moore and Goldberg enter the picture because people are curious about Tatum’s project. The insider claimed it was “a delicate situation” as the A-list women are “asked about the film every time they’re in front of the press.” So far, the two stars of the 1990 movie have tried to remain “neutral,” but it isn’t easy.
Moore sounded hesitant when she was asked about the project in May. “Look, every story in some ways has already been told. The wonderful thing is the different way things can be reinterpreted,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “I think there are some films that often are better left not touched and left, and then sometimes there are wonderful surprises in that reinterpretation.” Describing Tatum as “super talented,” she admitted she was “curious to see what he decides to do.”
The St. Elmo’s Fire star’s lukewarm response to Tatum’s Ghost remake isn’t slowing him down. He apparently likes the challenge of trying to “win their unabashed support.” The 44-year-old actor seems up to the task, too! “He’s going to be respectful,” the insider added. “He’s going to do this in a fiscally responsible way, and he’s going to do everything in his power not to disrespect or piss off Whoopi and Demi.” That sounds like a winning formula!
