Deon Cole heckled by good friend Sir Paul McCartney after they got 'too high' before his standup set

"Some of it bombed."

Deon Cole blamed a rough standup set on getting too high with his friend. Only to bring said friend onstage — noted legend Sir Paul McCartney of Wings fame. And the Beatles.

McCartney popped in to Cole's show at the Hollywood Improv in Los Angeles on Sept. 17, the same day his new Netflix special, Deon Cole: Ok, Mister, dropped. Despite Cole being the professional comedian, turns out that McCartney was the one with the jokes.

"I got high with my friend tonight, and we had a good time, Cole said, ushering "Say, Say, Say" singer onto the stage. "Ladies and gentlemen, please give it up for my friend, Paul McCartney,"

"I had to smoke, and that's why this is happening," Cole continued, "and y'all motherf---ers did not give no love to me at all tonight."

When an audience member yelled out that they indeed had given him love, Cole comically snapped, "Shut the f--- up!"

McCartney was quick to razz his pal, adding, "I’ve just been enjoying seeing you working through this material, and you’re right, some of it bombed."

Cole did not, however, tell Sir Paul to shut the f--- up. "That's how you do it, man," the Black-ish star conceded. "I'd rather do it in front of 40 than 4,000."

The comic then went on to ask the 82-year-old if he ever bombed any of his performances, and he assured him that he had. Back when he was just a fresh-faced mop-top with three other lads from Liverpool.

"In the beginning, when we started out, guys used to throw pennies at us," McCartney recalled. "Took a while to know what we were doing."

Cole, who's been at this standup thing for quite a while, didn't really take much comfort in the anecdote. "That don't feel good, Paul," he said. "I've been doing it long enough, goddammit, but I hear what you're saying."

After praising Cole, McCartney took his leave, adding on his way out, "And I didn't turn you on to smoking."

"Yes you did, motherf---er," Cole responded. "You had me smoking with you and s---."

Considering that McCartney once famously co-wrote a song about getting high with a little help from his friends, Cole may have a point.
