Dermot Mulroney cast as “Chicago Fire”'s new fire chief
The actor's casting comes after Eamonn Walker, who played Battalion Chief Wallace Boden, exited the series at the end of season 12.
Ring the alarm! Dermot Mulroney will soon be turning up the heat in Firehouse 51.
The actor has been cast as Chicago Fire’s newest fire chief Dom Pascal ahead of the hit firefighting drama’s upcoming 13th season. The announcement comes after Eamonn Walker, who played Battalion Chief Wallace Boden, exited the show as a series regular at the end of season 12.
No official details about Mulroney’s character have been released just yet. However, sources close the production told Deadline that Pascal is a cheery man who initially got his start with the Chicago Fire Department and has spent the last decade working in Miami, Florida. The chief will also reportedly have a different leadership approach than Boden.

News of a brand-new fire chief may take some Chicago Fire fans by surprise, given that Boden tapped veteran firefighter Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) as his successor for the position after being promoted.
However, Eigenberg recently told TV Insider that he wasn’t sure Herrmann was ready to make that leap just yet.
“The character can’t make a shift to a chief unless we were deep into TV falsehoods,” he said. “I’m not going to let him do that. He has to become a captain, and then you got to go through a whole thing. I think that the character might be able to make the transition. I don’t know. Who knows? They may put me in chief and then fire me as a chief. We’ll see.”
Fans will have to wait and see what happens next at the firehouse when Chicago Fire returns for season 13 on Sept. 25.
