Detroit rapper Tee Grizzley to give away free meals at L. Georges Coney Island location
Rapper Tee Grizzley, whose real name is Terry Wallace Jr., on Friday released his latest album, “Tee’s Coney Island.”
The Detroit-born and raised rapper is celebrating at — where else? — at a local coney island with a special pita sandwich meal
And it’s not any coney place. A post on Grizzley's Facebook page announced he will be giving away meals at L. Georges Coney Island on Joy Road at Evergreen.
“Detroit?? My childhood coney L George’s on Joy Rd is doing a special Tee Grizzley meal so I will be there this Friday 11/3 at 5pm to celebrate my album release and give away 100 meals,” according to the post.

The meal Grizzley will be giving away is a pita sandwich with bacon and Swiss cheese along with fries and a drink to the first 100 customers between 5-7 p.m.
Anton Nrecaj said he was surprised when he got the call. Nrecaj has owned L. Georges for four years but has worked there for 20 years.
“His team contacted me and said this is his childhood coney island,” owner Anton Nrecaj said. “I was surprised. He used to come here a lot. I am old school rapper and in the era with Biggy and Tupac. Maybe when he’s here, I’ll remember him. “
The chicken pita is always on the menu and people tend to order it with bacon and Swiss cheese, Nrecaj said. The sandwich costs $15.58 and for $2.95 more you can make it a meal with fries and a drink.
“For the next week of the album release, that’s (the pita sandwich) is going to be a meal special for the rest of the week,” Nrecaj said.
L. Georges, according to its website, has been at Joy Road and Evergreen since 1958. On the menu are, of course, coneys, along with a good selection of breakfast specials and lunch items from sandwiches to burgers and salads.
Nrecaj said they are still working on opening up the whole place post-COVID-19. The coney is open 24 hours with the inside being open 6 a.m.-2 p.m. L. Georges is located at 20003 Joy Road at Evergreen in Detroit.
