How did Jo Koy do as 2024 Golden Globes host? Grade him! [POLL]
One year after Jerrod Carmichael earned an “F” grade by Gold Derby users for hosting the 2023 Golden Globes on NBC, this year’s producers went back to the drawing board and tapped a little-known comedian to host the CBS ceremony: Jo Koy. Even though Koy may not have a household name, he has had a successful career for decades, including four Netflix stand-up specials, the feature film “Easter Sunday,” and the late-night talk show “Chelsea Lately.” So how did Jo Koy do as the 2024 Golden Globes host? Grade his performance in our poll below.

During his monologue on Sunday night, Koy said he was “just taking this all in” because it was a “dream come true” being on the big stage. He joked that he previously “only watched ‘Beef'” among the nominees, but after he got the job he “binge-watched everything.” He hopes to be finished watching “Oppenheimer” by 2025, adding that he “loved the first season.” Koy then mentioned “Barbie’s big boobies” and being “attracted to a plastic doll” … hmm.
When the crowd of A-listers didn’t laugh at a certain joke, Koy revealed, “I got this job 10 days ago!” and admitted that he didn’t write all of the jokes. He had the audience chuckling when he mentioned how Barry Keoghan‘s “penis” from “Saltburn” needed its own chair, then somehow circled around and made it into a “Maestro” joke. His last remark of the monologue was about how Meryl Streep can do anything, and that he loved her in “Black Panther” when she yelled “Wakanda forever!”
Speaking last week about hosting the Golden Globes for the first time, Koy told my colleague Ray Richmond, “Who wouldn’t be happy to do this? You’re pretending if you’re not.” He’s always loved the “relaxed format” of the ceremony, adding, “It wasn’t stiff. It’s like, OK, they’re having fun, they’re drinking, they’re eating. As a viewer, it felt like you were looking through a window watching people have fun. And I want that. I want viewers to be happy and it’s my job to make sure they’re having fun watching it.”
Prior to Koy, other Golden Globe hosts from the modern era include Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey & Amy Poehler, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Andy Samberg & Sandra Oh, and Carmichael.
