Kentucky artists Tyler Childers and Jack Harlow were among the nominees at the 40th annual MTV Video Music Awards. Since 1984, the awards have been the scene of iconic moments including Madonna, Taylor Swift, and Eminem.
During the 2024 Awards, which aired live Wednesday from the UBS Arena in Long Island, New York, fans were treated to “supersized performances” from artists including Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Teddy Swims, Lenny Kravitz, and more. Katy Perry received the MTV Video Vanguard Award during the show and performed some of her biggest hits for the first time on the MTV stage since 2017. Megan Thee Stallion, who served as the host of the show, was also a nominee.
The big question of the night, "Will she or won't she?" was answered a mere two minutes after the show opened as cameras shifted to Taylor Swift dancing in the audience. The pop star led the nominations with 12 — eight for her “Fortnight” music video — two social categories and nods in the Best Pop and Artist of the Year categories. Moments later Swift and Post Malone were awarded the first award of the night for Best Collaboration: "Fortnight."
Swift went on to win seven awards Wednesday, including Artist of the Year and Video of the Year. That makes her the solo artist with the most career VMA wins, with a record 30 VMAs over her career, besting Beyonce’s 25 wins as a solo artist. She is also the first singer to win the Video of the Year award five times.
She also won for Song of the Summer, Best Pop, Best Direction, and Best Editing.

Did Jack Harlow win at the 2024 MTV VMAs?
As for the Kentucky contingency, Louisville rap superstar Jack Harlow, who hosted the VMAs in 2022 alongside Nicki Minaj and LL Cool J, was nominated this year in the Song of the Year category with his Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping “Lovin On Me."
The 2024 Song of the Year went to Sabrina Carpenter for “Espresso” and while he didn't win this year, Harlow previously won four VMA "Moon Person" statues for his collaboration in 2022 with Lil Nas X on the chart-topping hit "Industry Baby." Harlow also walked away that year with the people's vote for Song of the Summer for his hit "First Class."

Did Tyler Childers win at the 2024 MTV VMAs?
Also up for a VMA, country music star Childers, who grew up in Lawrence County, Kentucky, was among 29 first-time nominees at this year's MTV VMA awards show.
The Kentucky native was nominated in the Video For Good category, an award first introduced at the 2011 ceremony, and originally named Best Video with a Message. Childers's video nominated in the category, “In Your Love” tells a gripping story of gay rural love.
The 2024 MTV VMA Award in this category went to Billie Eilish for “What Was I Made For (From The Motion Picture “Barbie")."
