Alyssa’s grand prize is a cool $200,000, plus a year’s supply of cosmetics from Anastasia Beverly Hills, a crown and scepter Fierce Drag Jewels, and a spot in the “International Pavilion” at the “Drag Race Hall of Fame.” The other person to win prize money during the finale was France’s Soa de Muse, who was voted Miss Global Peacemaker (aka Miss Congeniality) by her fellow queens and took home an extra $10K to along with her $50K from last week’s Global Lip Sync Assassin victory.
Kitty, Kween, and Nehellenia all tied for the runner-up position at the end of Friday’s season finale. The contestants’ last main challenge on the show was to create a TikTok-inspired dance video to the song “Dance Like the World is Watching,” to walk the catwalk in the theme of “Best Drag on Earth,” and to compete in a solo lip sync to Lady Gaga‘s “Bad Romance.” RuPaul thought that Alyssa slayed all three parts of the challenge, and named her the ultimate champion.
After the crowning, RuPaul asked Alyssa if she had anything to say and she declared, “Always and forever, Alyssa Edwards, [tongue pop]!” She later stated in a confessional, “This has been a long time coming.” Indeed, Alyssa (real name Justin Dwayne Lee Johnson) has been a part of the “Drag Race” family since she first competed in Season 5, placing sixth. She later returned in “All Stars 2,” placing fifth. This year marked Alyssa’s 23rd year on the drag scene and the first time making it to a season finale.
“From Mesquite, Texas, there was nobody like me on television,” Alyssa noted earlier in the episode when answering a question about why drag is so important. “I had a father that put Superman in front of me, and that was not my superhero. There will be another Justin that will be at home in some small town somewhere with the same father and upbringing that will watch this and go, ‘Because this person is brave and courageous, maybe I can be as well.'”
