Diddy Allegedly Threatened To Cut J. Cole’s Throat Years Ago Over Kendrick Lamar

Diddy allegedly threatened to slash J. Cole’s throat over Kendrick Lamar’s “Control.” On Saturday (Sept. 14), Tank and J. Valentine’s R&B Money podcast uploaded a new episode featuring Terrence “Punch” Henderson, the president of Top Dawg Entertainment. During the episode, the men were gifted a vague story featuring a slew of heavy hitters for their I Ain’t Saying No Names segment.

Punch told the story of what happened after Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse dropped and how the energy shifted the culture, particularly at the 2013 MTV VMAs afterparty in New York City. Henderson stuck to the segment’s rules and omitted all possible names involved, but as most savvy fans have learned, the story’s main players involved Diddy and J. Cole, who was taking up for his friend Lamar.

“The homie just did this song, right? Pissed a gang of people off, everybody was mad at it,” Punch started the story. “When the song came out, he was overseas, then he came back to the States… First place we stopped in was New York City and the first thing we do is say, ‘Let’s go to the club’ because we want to check the temperature, see what everybody was on — L.A. stuff… We get to the club. One of the homies approached us and [was] talking about this particular record. So we’re going back and forth: ‘Oh, it’s not personal. It’s just this, this and that. It’s cool, whatever, whatever.'”

“Another one of the homies walk up, he looked drunk [and] said, ‘Yeah, y’all ni**as need to go back and forth and keep it on wax or whatever.’ So the two dudes who approached [us], they get into a little back and forth, a little argument with each other now. What we didn’t know is they had got into an argument before we got there.”

Punch then explained how he and his TDE cohorts entered the club’s VIP section. There, they came in contact with a slew of celebrities referring to the amount of star power as “the front row of the Grammys.” He then explained how Diddy continued his vitriol, leading to him threatening to slice Cole’s throat.

“The homie that got into it with the other one, he’s sitting two steps down from me on the couch. Then they came back to him, the ones who got into an alteration earlier,” he continued.

“He was like, ‘If you ever say what you said to me earlier, ni**a, I’ll—.’ And he grabbed a bottle from the table and he said, ‘What you gon’ do? Hit me on my head with a bottle?’ He was like, ‘Nah, I’m gonna break it on the table and I’m gonna cut your throat.’ It was getting tense. So the ni**a standing on the ground reached up and tried to grab dude by the neck. So dude reached around and fired on him and they both fell on the table, knocking all the drinks over. It’s a scuffle now, a huge scuffle.”

Punch previously shared information regarding the fight on Math Hoffa’s podcast, My Expert Opinion, but used names. During this telling of the story, he mentioned JAY-Z, Diddy, Cole, and Kendrick.

“[JAY-Z] and Puff are doing the dinner that they usually do,” he said. “Puff and Cole were talking about the verse, and they ended up getting into a little back and forth. When we come in, Cole and Kendrick was talking about the verse… Then Puff came back over, and their argument sparked up again. So from there, they ended up getting into the whole scuffle in the club.”

In this version of the story, the TDE president then mentioned that Emory Jones, Hov’s close friend, jumped into the fight, thinking that one of his artists was fighting. Jones then rushed into the scuffle, where he grabbed Cole, but as he got closer to the fight, he was surprised to see it was Jermaine.
