Diddy Blackface Costume Prompts Investigation Into White Influencer
A white influencer has come under fire and investigation after using blackface to dress as Diddy for Halloween.
In a TikTok video posted online on Sunday (Oct. 27), an account called “Allegra’s Diary” showed off a carousel of costumes that couples wore to the festive party. One costume in particular showed an unnamed white boy in Blackface, wearing a Black suit jacket, white trousers, a red bowtie, and beat-up Adidas Sambas. A white girl in a pink sweater and hat with a Johnson & Johnson baby oil logo on her chest could be seen on his arm.
The video received plenty of attention, with backlash coming in swiftly from netizens accusing the boy and girl of blatant racism. “The fit is nowhere near how Diddy dresses so he really just wanted to get the Blackface off,” an account suggested.
“I’m stuck on the fact that the Blackface is the only part of this costume that has anything at all to do with Diddy. This is a man who went to the Dee Reynolds School of Cross-Racial Impressions,” another person typed on X/Twitter. “That ain’t even diddy bro, that’s literally just textbook 1930s Blackface,” someone else quipped.
While the initial post was deleted from TikTok, the outrage prompted an investigation into the kids after comments suggested that the couple had gone to several California-based universities, such as UCLA and San Diego State University.
The Independent reports that San Diego State University initiated an investigation into the matter. However, the institute claims that the students in the video nor the person who uploaded the video were SDSU students.
“We appreciate those who have come forward to share information about images circulating online,” the school’s statement read. “The use of Blackface and any actions making light of sexual assault are deeply offensive and have no place in our community. The individuals photographed are not confirmed SDSU students, and our team is working to confirm information, including the location and identities of those involved.”
During Diddy’s September indictment, unsealed documents revealed that federal agents confiscated several goods from his home. One thousand bottles of baby oil were said to have been included in the massive haul, with authorities claiming that Diddy’s team “would be responsible for booking hotels, gathering drugs, baby oil, lubricant” before the ‘Freak Offs’ and mitigating room damage after they were done.
