Gene Deal, Diddy’s former bodyguard, has become the new flavor of the month when it comes to interviews due to his connection to the controversial mogul. In a recent interview, he made a claim that had nothing to do with Diddy; rather, he claimed that JAY-Z hid from 2Pac in a hotel room before performing at his concert in Las Vegas.

“I don’t know how Pac found out that JAY-Z had a show, but JAY-Z was not coming out that room,” he told Cam Capone News in an interview published on Thursday (Oct. 10). Deal said that it took phone calls with Chaz Williams, Big D, Eric B, and Suge Knight to ensure that nothing would happen.

“Suge said, ‘Yo, man, that ain’t me. That’s Pac with his wild a**,” Deal said. “Suge Knight told Pac to give JAY-Z a pass so he could go do his concert, because Jay wasn’t coming out of that room, you know, to do nothing.”

Gene Deal did not know the specific reason why 2Pac had an issue with JAY-Z, but he thought it may have something to do with Hov working with The Notorious B.I.G on “Brooklyn’s Finest” from his 1996 album Reasonable Doubt. Biggie made a clear reference to Pac on the track when he rapped, “If Faith have twins, she’d probably have two pacs/ Get it? 2 Pac’s?”

During a 2020 Instagram Live with Fat Joe, Irv Gotti claimed that he told the “Dead Presidents II” rapper not to do “Brooklyn’s Finest,” though it had nothing to do with Pac. “I was dead set against it,” Gotti said. “I was telling Jay, ‘Don’t do it, don’t do it’ and he was like, ‘Why?’ I was like, ‘Big, he’s too strong. Before we take over the world, we gotta take over the West Coast. Before we take over the West Coast, we gotta take over the East Coast. Before we take over the East Coast, we gotta take over New York. Before we take over New York, you gotta take over Brooklyn and he owns all that.’”

Gotti feared that Jay may seem inferior to Big by working with him. DJ Clark Kent also revealed to ItsTheReal in 2015 that the father of three recorded a diss track aimed at 2Pac that never came out because he died, though Jay later performed it at the Apollo Theater. This still isn’t enough to substantiate a beef between Hov and Pac, as nothing directly occurred between the two, but it does allude to there potentially being things behind the scenes that the public wasn’t aware of or haven’t been revealed yet.
