Dillon Francis on his way to rock Columbia Blockfest concert on Sixth Street
Dillon Francis is ready to light up the block.
On Oct. 4, the electronic music superstar will headline the Blockfest concert series on Sixth Street, presented by MyHouse nightclub and the fraternity Sigma Nu. Previous Blockfest headliners range from Shaquille O'Neal — yes, that Shaquille O'Neal — to Steve Aoki.
A Los Angeles native, Francis has a faithful following, with more than 3 million Instagram followers and more than 4 million monthly listeners on Spotify. His most-played song on that particular platform is "Get Low," a 2014 collaboration with French artist DJ Snake that has been streamed more than 200 million times.
A prolific figure on the scene, Francis has collaborated with everyone from Major Lazer and Skrillex to Panic! at the Disco leader Brendon Urie. And he has released a number of singles and mixtapes this year.
"The Sound," his new single with Dutch artist Julian Jordan, derives its personality from chords that burst into color and skittering beats that seem to redound upon one another. Other recent cuts like "Take Me Away," a collaboration with longstoryshort, features enveloping bass and what sounds like musical gates blowing off their hinges.
This summer's "Pretty Low," which unites a bevy of artists, comprises standard dance-pop until it doesn't, as flourishes intervene and invigorate.
Tickets for the Oct. 4 show are $35, and this is an 18-and-over event. Visit https://myhousecomo.com/ for more information.
