Dionne Warwick Disagrees with PinkPantheress' Thoughts on Short Songs: 'I Do Believe a Bridge Is Important'

Songs should feature a bridge, according to Dionne Warwick.

After British pop star PinkPantheress — whose tracks are generally quite short — recently told ABC News she doesn't think songs need to be longer than two minutes and 30 seconds, the "Walk on By" icon responded with her thoughts on social media.

In the ABC News interview, the 23-year-old "Boy's a Liar" performer was asked about her affinity for making short songs. "A song doesn’t need to be longer than 2 minutes 30 [seconds], in my opinion. We don’t need to repeat a verse, we don’t need to have a bridge — we don’t need it! We don’t need a long outro," she said.

Warwick, 83, came across a clip from the interview on X (formerly Twitter) and simply responded with a question mark. One fan took her remark as a slight toward PinkPantheress, but the Grammy winner was quick to clarify her thoughts.

"I am not 'getting' her. Artists are allowed to create their art in any way they choose," wrote Warwick in a follow-up post. "However, I do believe a bridge is important."

PinkPantheress has become known for her brief musical compositions since dropping her 2021 debut mixtape, To Hell with It, which featured 10 songs and clocked in at just under 19 minutes.

Her 2023 debut album, Heaven Knows, was a little longer — with 13 songs running at a total of 34 minutes.

Elsewhere in her ABC News chat, PinkPantheress reflected on the early days of her career. "I was able to experiment, and making short songs was just a result of me experimenting," she said.

The "Turn It Up" musician (born Victoria Beverley Walker) also explained the origin of her stage name. "I was trying to make an account on TikTok, and I wanted it to just be Pantheress," she told the outlet.

"It was taken and I was just like, 'This is a throwaway account anyway, so let me just put pink in front 'cause I love the film [The Pink Panther],'" she added. "I really was planning to change it."
