‘The Diplomat’ Season 2′ trailer: Allison Janney is ready to make Keri Russell’s life hell
Keri Russell vs. Allison Janney? Yes, please.
On Tuesday, Netflix dropped the trailer for Season 2 of “The Diplomat,” which offers a first look at Janney’s new character, Vice President Grace Penn. Season 2 of the Netflix political thriller picks up after the explosive (literally) Season 1 cliff-hanger when a car bomb detonated in the middle of London. The trailer reveals that Kate and her husband, Hal (Rufus Sewell), survived the blast — and the latter is, per Netflix, “very much involved” as Kate soon learns that the attack came from inside the British government.

Here is the official logline: “As Kate chases the truth, her only real ally is her almost-ex-husband Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell), very much alive, and very much involved. She faces a fraught marriage, a complex dynamic with British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and a threatening visit from Vice President Grace Penn (Janney).” Janney’s VP arrives at the end of the trailer and is definitely salivating at the prospect of torturing Kate.
The Season 2 cast also includes Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, Ato Essandoh, Celia Imrie, Michael McKean, Nana Mensah, and Miguel Sandoval. Russell, who received an Emmy nomination for the first season, serves as executive producer alongside showrunner and creator Debora Cahn, Janice Williams, Alex Graves, and Peter Noah.
Netflix quickly renewed “The Diplomat” for a second season 10 days after Season 1 dropped. Season 2 premieres on Thursday, Oct. 31 with all six episodes, two fewer than Season 1.
