The Movie/Limited Series race at the 2025 Emmys already has a frontrunner. On Tuesday, Apple TV+ released a new trailer for its star-studded prestige psychological thriller “Disclaimer,” which premieres October 11.

The seven-episode series is written and directed by five-time Academy Award winner Alfonso Cuarón, in his first time behind the camera since “Roma.” He’s working with two of the world’s most acclaimed cinematographers, Academy Award winner Emmanuel Lubezki and six-time nominee Bruno Delbonnel, who serve as directors of photography. Two-time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett stars as Catherine Ravenscroft, a famous journalist and documentarian, whose life starts to unravel when she receives a copy of a novel that exposes secrets she has tried to keep hidden for many years. The cast also includes Academy Award winner Kevin Kline, Academy Award nominee Sacha Baron Cohen, Academy Award nominee Kodi Smit-McPhee, Academy Award nominee Lesley Manville, Louis Partridge, Leila George, and Hoyeon. It’s based on a 2015 novel by Renée Knight

The trailer sets an ominous mood as Catherine’s perfect life comes crashing down. At one point, Manville’s character grabs her and spits “How can you sleep at night?” Whatever Catherine did, it was bad. Cuarón’s signature swooping camerawork amplifies the drama.

The series, which is partially set in Venice, premiered at the Venice Film Festival in August, because Cuarón considers it a seven-part film. “In terms of this approach of motion pictures, it’s been known as film. I don’t know how to direct TV. Probably at this stage of my life it’s too late to learn how to direct TV,” Cuarón said during a press conference at the festival, via IndieWire. “We approached this whole thing as a film. There was never a conversation where we were doing something different.”

“Disclaimer” begins streaming on Friday, October 11 with the first two episodes. New episodes will release weekly until November 15.
