Will 'A Discovery of Witches' Return for a Season 4?

A Discovery of Witches, based on the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness, is now streaming on Netflix, and reaching a new audience of fans. The first weekend it was available on the platform, in fact, it reached the top 10 of all TV shows.

There are just three seasons of A Discovery of Witches, starring Teresa Palmer as witch Diana Bishop and Matthew Goode as vampire Matthew Clairmont, and the third season pretty definitively wraps up their storyline. However, with the renewed popularity of the show, many fans have begun to wonder: Is there a season four of A Discovery of Witches in the works?

Palmer hasn't ruled out returning to play Teresa. "I think she’s really got a place in my heart. She’s imprinted on me. I have always been really good at breaking up with a character and moving on, but she’s kind of lingering around," she told Decider in 2021. "Deborah’s always writing, writing, writing, writing, and I think she’s written more books and she has the intention of writing more for Diana and Matthew... So never say never."

In fact, this summer, author Deborah Harkness did release a new book in her All Souls Trilogy, The Black Bird Oracle, which takes places seven years after the conclusion of the events of The Book of Life (the basis for season three)—that means there's brand-new source material if the creators did want to return to the show. Plus, the show never adapted the fourth book, Time's Convert, which follows Marcus.
