Disney's 'Frozen 2' becomes highest grossing animated film of all time
Disney continues to break box office records early in 2020.
The studio reports Frozen 2 is now the highest grossing animated release globally of all time with estimated earnings at $1.325 billion, beating records set by its predecessor Frozen ($1.281 billion) and Incredibles 2 ($1.243 billion). This distinction also makes Disney Animation/Pixar the studio with all top three animated films ever released.
Frozen 2 is a follow-up to the hit 2013 film starring Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel about a fearless princess who sets out to rescue her estranged sister whose powers are trapped by eternal winter. The popular sequel picks up three years after the events of the first film that sees the siblings head out on a whole new icy adventure with some of their closest friends.
The sequel features voices from a star-studded cast, including Evan Rachel Wood, Sterling K. Brown, Alfred Molina, Martha Plimpton, Jeremy Sisto, Josh Gad, and Jason Ritter.
Also making big moves is the studio’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which is close to becoming their seventh film to cross the one billion mark. It’s currently the third highest grossing release of 2019, preceded only by Avengers: Endgame and The Lion King — making the top three all Disney owned titles.
