DJ Cassidy Spins For DNC Roll Call Featuring State-Specific Songs And Performance By Lil Jon

The Democratic party partied at the 2024 Roll Call on Day 2 of the Democratic National Convention Tuesday (Aug. 20).

For insight, the Roll Call ceremony is pretty much a “verbal voting” event where states, alphabetically, “pledge their delegates” to the Harris-Walz ticket. All 57 delegations from the 50 states and U.S. territories participated in the pledge.

As the same event was held virtually four years ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this time around voters enjoyed entertainment in-person, as each state was introduced with specific music played by DJ Cassidy. Attendees were also treated to special guests including a Georgia performance by Atlanta’s Lil Jon.

Other timeless songs played during the state Roll Call included: Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” for Michigan, Tupac Shakur’s “California Love” for Cali and Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama” for the Heart of Dixie.

Additionally, Minnesota chose “1999” by Paisley Park’s own Prince and Indiana went with native Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough.”

New Jersey also chose Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA,” as Iowa went with Kool & the Gang’s “Celebrate” and for Kentucky — Jack Harlow’s “First Class.” And of course, Beyoncé was a chosen for her Lone Star State anthem “Texas Hold ‘Em.”

Aside from the entertainment, former President Barack Obama closed out the festive event with a high-energy speech regarding President Joe Biden’s service as both VP and POTUS, his similarities with VP Kamala Harris, and even former president Donald Trump’s “weirdness.”

Obama also spoke on serious issues such as abortion rights and the LGBTQ community. “We believe that freedom requires us to recognize that other people have the freedom to make choices that are different than ours,” he said.

“We need to remember that we’ve all got our blind spots and contradictions and prejudices; and that if we want to win over those who aren’t yet ready to support our candidate, we need to listen to their concerns — and maybe learn something in the process.”
