Sarah Silverman to Bernie Sanders holdouts at DNC: 'You're being ridiculous'

Actress and comedian Sarah Silverman was none too amused by a vocal segment of Bernie Sanders holdouts at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on Monday evening, and she let them know.

An outspoken Sanders supporter herself, Silverman was sharing the stage with Sen. Al Franken and making the case for unifying behind presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton when some diehard Sanders backers kept chanting “Bernie, Bernie!”

Appearing somewhat exasperated, Silverman finally addressed them. “Can I just say to the ‘Bernie or Bust’ people, you’re being ridiculous,” she said. As the crowd cheered in response, Silverman added, “They told us to stretch [for time], so I figured I’d add that.”

The ad-lib marked a climactic moment in an appearance that started off humorously enough — “This past year I’ve been feeling the Bern,” Silverman joked, but she “put some cream on it” — only to become awkward as Franken and Silverman tried to bring the crowd together.

Silverman did manage to get in a thinly veiled jab at Republican nominee Donald Trump, whom she did not name but whose controversial rhetoric she alluded to. “That’s, like, major arrested development stuff. That’s ‘I’m still emotionally 4 and calling people names from my gold-encrusted sandbox because I was given money instead of human touch or coping tools’ stuff,” she said. “But I digress.”
