'Doctor Strange' clip: Benedict Cumberbatch readies for magical combat

We’ve seen how the worlds of Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Warcraft handle magical combat. Now it’s Marvel’s turn: A new clip from Doctor Strange, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, reveals a fight scene between dimension-jumping sorcerers.

In the footage, the villainous Kaecillius (Mads Mikkelsen) and his allies attack Strange in his Sanctum Sanctorum, and what ensues is a Matrix-influenced, martial arts-style sequence of mind-bending proportions.

“I was always interested in the extreme mind-bending visuals of the comics,” Derrickson told EW. “I had very ambitious for the visuals, which were rooted in the comics, that movies haven’t done yet. And a lot of that goes back to the Ditko artwork and all that ’60s craziness you see in the comics.”

We’ll see more of Marvel’s magic side when Doctor Strange hits theaters on Nov. 4. Watch the clip below, via Mashable. For even more on Doctor Strange, pick up the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, on newsstands now.
