Doechii Recharges And Resets In “SUNDAY’S BEST” Swamp Sessions Feat. Fana Hues
Doechii showcases her vulnerable, spiritual side in “SUNDAY’S BEST.”
Continuing her Swamp Sessions series, the Florida musician bares all as she details her process of resetting, recharging, and reconnecting with herself beyond her physical being.
The longest edition of the series thus far, the intimate track features vocals from singer Fana Hues. In the video, directed by James Mackel with creative direction from Doechii, the rapper cleans up a chaotic space and prioritizes self-care.
“I know everybody got they sh*t together 100% of time and everything but… for those of us who understand phases of partying too much, neglecting your space, missing one too many journal entries and depression apartments THIS IS FOR YOU,” explained the 25-year-old on Instagram sharing a clip from “SUNDAY’S BEST.”
“This is my fav swamp session thus far simply because it’s a conversation between me and God. It’s not really about yall or anybody really… just me honoring my solitude. Let this be your sign to RECOVER this Sunday.”
The Swamp Session series was launched last month with episodes released weekly on Fridays. Thus far, the self-proclaimed Swamp Princess has flexed her skills in “BULLFROG,” “CATFISH,” “NISSAN ALTIMA,” and “FLORIDA WATA” prior to the “SUNDAY’S BEST” update.
“yall asked and i delivered! Swamp Sessions is a series where I set a timer for an hour and I write a song. Whatever I get in an hour is what gets posted! This time I’m adding one scene visuals to scratch that creative director itch, enjoy,” she explained of the collection.
Hopefully, Swamp Sessions signals a pending drop from the Top Dawg Entertainment signee as “NISSAN ALTIMA” was officially released across streaming platforms beyond YouTube, where the other tracks are housed. The visual for the ride-ready song features her TDE labelmates Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, and Isaiah Rashad cruising, and posted up with the titular whip as the chart-topping musician talks her sh*t.
Earlier this year, Doechii collaborated with fellow Florida rapper JT to signal the “Year of the Swamp” in “Alter Ego,” updating the confident track with two music videos and multiple audio versions after its release.
“It’s interesting to watch people try and figure me out. I’ve never been overly pressed about defining who I am as a person or an artist,” detailed Doechii to HYPEBEAST earlier this month. “I’m simply just existing and being myself. I see others try and wrap their heads around it, but I’m so many things in so many different ways. You really just have to accept yourself in order to understand who I am.”
