Does Doctor Odyssey’s Pregnancy Twist Ruin Our Fever Dream Theory? Phillipa Soo Weighs In on Fall Finale
Whoa, baby!
In Thursday’s Doctor Odyssey — the last new episode until March 2025 — Avery reveals that she’s pregnant. (Gasp!) The twist? She doesn’t know who the father is — and after that steamy threesome, it’s anybody’s guess.

When Avery brings the news to Max and Tristian, they each respond differently. Max is frantic and inquisitive, peppering Avery with questions and clinically presenting the possible scenarios; Tristan remains calm and collected, downplaying the situation while expressing aloof support.
Ultimately, one thing is certain: Neither man is prepared for fatherhood. (Perhaps Avery should jump ship and raise this child on her own!)
But what does the pregnancy mean for TVLine’s Fever Dream Theory, which argues that the entire ship is fake and the passengers are occupying the liminal space between life and death? If everyone is in purgatory, how can new life be created on board?
Phillipa Soo, who plays the mommy-to-be on the ABC drama, assures us that we shouldn’t ditch our theory just yet. “Anything is truly possible as this has been established as this luxurious fantasy,” she tells TVLine. “I feel like maybe the best thing to do is just go along for the ride — because your answers will come eventually.”
Soo admits that she loves the speculation — though, in the name of protecting the discourse, she can’t tease too much about what’s to come. “We gotta give space to the theories,” she says.
She is, however, excited by the fall finale’s pregnancy twist, adding: “I’ve just been grateful and really honored to tell this story and try and bring as much truth and humanity as possible to a woman’s conversation with herself and her partner-slash-partners about what she wants to do.”
