Does FBI: International Have a New Fly Team Leader? Grade Jesse Lee Soffer’s Debut in Season 4 Premiere
Chicago P.D. alum Jesse Lee Soffer made his FBI: International debut in Tuesday night’s Season 4 premiere, and Supervisory Special Agent Wesley “Wes” Mitchell made quite a first impression — to the point that Special Agent Cameron Vo played by Vinessa Vidotto) has invited her former mentor to lead the Fly Team.
Will Wes say yes? And if so, do you think he’s a good fit, alongside Cam, Smitty, Raines and Tate?

In the episode “A Leader, Not a Tourist,” the Fly Team — some time after former team leader Scott Forrester disappeared into the wind, with his mom — met Wes when his partner, Brooks, got shot in Los Angeles, and the suspects left a trail leading to Budapest.
Cam, we learned, was one of Wes’ trainees when he was a field training officer. Wes was really hard on her back then, so they have an interesting dynamic upon being reunited.
The Fly Team has been under the hands-off purview of an Agent McKintrick since Scott left, though he is far more interested in the perks of the overseas office than actually chasing bad guys,
As such, Cam — at episode’s end, after the fatal shooting of Wes’ partner has been more-or-less solved — suggested a big step for him, if he is seeking direction in his shaken-up life.
As Wes once said, Cam reminds him, “You can make your own plan or be a part of someone else’s plan.” Wes asks what such a change to his life would look like, and Cam noted, “McKintrick is on the wine-and-cheese circuit, I have nothing to learn from him, and I’m not on this job to dick around.
“What we do [on the Fly Team] really matters, the people on this team really matter,” Cam avowed, “and I want to hunt the bad guys.”
Yes, Cam might one day herself seek a leadership role (after she goes GS-14), but until then, 1) “I still love being a case agent,” she says, plus 2) “the others are on board” with Wes taking the reins.
“What this team needs is a leader,” she remarks, “not a tourist” à la McKintrick.
What is going through Wes’ mind, as he steps outside to take in Budapest’s nighttime skyline?
“L.A.? Budapest? “L.A…? Budapest…?” quips Soffer, pretending to weigh the options with his hands. “Eastern Europe? Or sandy beaches of Malibu?”
Perhaps giving Wes the extra nudge he’ll need to say yes is the fact that Ella, his girlfriend back home, just gave him the hook via FaceTime.
“He’s like, I basically have nothing to go back to,” especially with his partner in crimefighting being dead, Soffer says. “He’s going, ‘OK, I’m at a fork in the road here. I can go back to all this grief, or I can put myself into a whole new job and grind and look forward.’ And that is what he chooses to do.”
