'Dog the Bounty Hunter' star Beth Chapman's throat cancer has returned
Family and friends asked for prayers for Dog the Bounty Hunter’s Beth Chapman as she underwent emergency surgery on Tuesday to remove a mass from her throat — and they are still needed. Doctors have discovered that her throat cancer is back.
“I can confirm that unfortunately, her cancer has returned,” Andrew Brettler, an attorney for Beth and Duane “Dog” Chapman, said in a statement to USA Today. “The doctors say it’s serious and are evaluating her treatment options. We’re all hoping for the best.”
After a normal night out on Monday, Beth, 51, who starred alongside her husband in A&E’s Dog the Bounty Hunter and CMT’s Dog and Beth: On the Hunt, had difficulty breathing and was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles early Tuesday morning, according to TMZ. That’s when doctors discovered a mass in her throat, and she was taken into surgery soon after.
Beth was first diagnosed with throat cancer in September 2017, and her journey was documented on the A&E special Dog and Beth: Fight of Their Lives. It was a candid look at their struggle while she battled the disease, including breaking the news to their family, going to doctor visits, as well as the 13-hour surgery to remove the stage II tumor.
“I’ve stared down the devil more than once in my life but I’ve never faced a real life or death decision,” Beth told Radar Online last November. “My life has never been easy, and I surely don’t expect it to start now. Still, I’ve never been a victim and I won’t let cancer beat me.”
On New Year’s Day, she shared an Instagram post showing her scars from surgery, writing, “It has been very hard to look at this in the mirror, it serves as a constant reminder of something I’d love to forget.”

TMZ reports that her husband of 12 years has been by her side in the hospital. “Prayers are welcomed please,” a post on his Facebook page read on Tuesday.
And prayers are flowing in from her fans around the world on the couple’s social media pages, including on this photo of a recent hike to the Mother Cabrini Shrine in Colorado. Wrote one fan, “We need you healthy, @mrsdog4real. No one as smart and badass as you. A very real inspiration for many of us. Our prayers are with you to lift you to God.”
