‘Doubling Down With the Derricos’ Deon Clarifies ‘Concerning’ Statement From the Hospital
Deon Derrico is trying to give fans some peace of mind after one of the social media posts he made while, presumably at the hospital, set off alarm bells.
Over the weekend, the Doubling Down With the Derricos star revealed that both he and his mother, Marian "GG" Derrico, ended up in the emergency room at a hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada, for different reasons. They both are said to be doing "okay now."
According to the reality star, GG was dehydrated with extremely low potassium levels. Considering she is also battling lung cancer, medical professionals decided to keep her in the hospital a bit longer for observation. "But she’s talking smack and getting on my case," which, according to Deon, "is always a great sign!"
Then, later on Monday, the reality TV personality shared another update with fans on Instagram, telling them that GG is "still a little under the weather" but much better than she was hours prior.
Deon then went on to address the real elephant in the room: a cryptic post he shared featuring Robin Williams that same day.
"I have a PSA," he added, "I am doing, mentally, great. I really and truly am."
While he still has not gone into detail about why he ended up in the ER on Sunday, he confirmed it was unrelated to his mental health, as fans had initially suspected, especially considering he only finalized his divorce about a week ago.
"That's not a cover-up," he told the camera. "That's not a facade, I'm doing very good. Just like all of us, I'm dealing with a lot. I have a lot going on."
"But I'm not suicidal," he clarified, citing the concern from viewers after Deon shared a photo of the late actor and comedian on his Instagram Story that included the statement: "Robin Williams once said, 'I think the people who have experienced the most sadness are the ones who try their hardest to make other people happy. Because they know in their flesh what it's like to feel empty and depressed and they don't want anyone else to feel that way.'"
Alongside the post, Deon wrote, "Only Lord knows these are my exact sentiments," before attaching the song "How to Save a Life" by The Fray.
He continued expressing gratitude for those who checked up on him in the caption, explaining what led him to share the post in question.
"I want to thank you all for the [outpouring] of love and concerns for me, when I shared the story on my Instagram about actor Robin Williams, it was because he was truly loved by millions but his sadness didn’t allow him to move past those inner emotions!" Deon began. "So I shared that post to help any and everyone who’s possibly dealing with somethings and it’s causing grief in their lives!! I’m not in ANYWAY SAD or depressed, I have never ever been suicidal!!! But unfortunately I know many people who have suffered or who’s suffering in silence!!"
He continued, "Many fans have reached out to and many of them I’ve tried to help by simple talking with them!! If you or someone you know are suffering in silence I encourage you to contact your local hospital for guidance on where you can seek support and all information is kept confidential!!!!"
Reiterating his stance once more, he concluded the June 24 upload by writing, "Again I’m not depressed nor sad albeit I’ve been inundated with a lot of challenges here recently, but I’m emotionally very healthy, sound in my thinking, and feeling very blessed for my great health and family!!!"
