Doug Emhoff On Andy Samberg’s ‘SNL’ Impression: “I Approve”
Doug Emhoff is reacting to Andy Samberg impersonating him on Saturday Night Live.
The SNL alum returned to the NBC sketch show for the Season 50 premiere, playing the Second Gentleman alongside Maya Rudolph as Kamala Harris.

“I’ve been watching that show my whole life and to think somebody’s playing me, first of all, it’s just so… wow!” Emhoff said on The Jennifer Hudson Show. “And then I gotta hand it [to him], Andy Samberg did a good job!”
He added, “I approve. Andy, good job. I love… the second gentlemensch line was pretty good. His little Dougie coming in.”
Emhoff commented on Samberg’s dancing, saying, “He was like, trying to do the Dougie. I don’t know what that move was, but it was pretty good. Andy, good job!”
On Rudolph playing Harris, Emhoff said, “Maya Rudolph, she’s so good as Kamala. She did a really good job.”
Samberg left SNL in 2012 and recently opened up about his decision to leave the late-night sketch show.
“For me, it was like I can’t actually endure it anymore,” he said on Kevin Hart’s Hart to Heart. “Physically and emotionally. I was falling apart in my life.”
He continued, “Physically, it was taking a heavy toll on me, and I got to a place where I hadn’t slept in seven years…It’s basically like four days a week you’re not sleeping, for seven years. I just kind of fell apart physically.”
Samberg told Hart that he didn’t “want” to leave. But he felt he had to walk away to “get back to a feeling of mental and physical health,” which was a “very difficult choice.”
