Dr. Phil McGraw appeared to endorse Donald Trump at a campaign rally in New York City last month, but has now revealed he did so in an “act of rebellion” against Kamala Harris.

In an interview with Piers Morgan, the television presenter claimed he had been snubbed by the Harris campaign after offering to take to the stage in support of the Democrat candidate.

“That was an act of rebellion on my part,” Dr. Phil told Morgan. “I requested 25-plus times to speak to Kamala Harris — I offered to give the identical speech at a Harris rally.”

Dr. Phil added that he was “not here to endorse Donald Trump” and that he does not like “a lot of what he says or does.” The presenter argued that he was not in favor of celebrity endorsements.

In a clip trailing the interview, Morgan asked if he had decided who he was going to vote for. “I think I have, but I’ll never tell,” Dr. Phil responded.

During his speech at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally, Dr. Phil described the former president as “tough as an old army boot” and pushed back on the idea that he is a bully.

“No human is perfect. We don’t strive for perfection. We strive for excellence,” he said. “But you don’t have to love everything about someone in order to love them, and the last thing he needs is some celebrity endorsement.”

McGraw spent much of his remarks claiming that Trump supporters are being bullied and silenced. He said that they are “canceled, intimidated, marginalized, excluded or even fired or boycotted.”

He also talked about how other celebrity endorsements are covered in the media. “I would love to say it’s equal on both sides, but I’ll guarantee you when Beyonce, George Clooney, De Niro and Lizzo come out and say they’re for Kamala Harris, did you read anything or hear anything in the media criticizing it? No, but you watch what happens tomorrow morning when people find out I came here to talk to you.”
