Drake Adds To Fan-Favorite Timestamp Series With Surprise “8AM In Charlotte” Video
Drake is less than a day away from releasing his forthcoming album For All The Dogs. The Toronto superstar surprise-released his latest timestamp record “8AM In Charlotte” and it features his son, Adonis Graham, making his music video debut.
The visual, released on Instagram early Thursday morning (Oct. 5), opens with Adonis describing something he drew to The 6 God. The endearing interaction ends with the 36-year-old artist asking why “daddy” is written next to a picture of a goat, to which they both arrive at the conclusion that the Her Loss rapper is “Daddy GOAT.” The Conductor Williams-produced beat drops and finds Drizzy spitting about a myriad of topics.
He shouts out Central Cee and 21 Savage, cleverly uses Jordan Peele’s 2019 film Us as a simile, and sends out subliminal shots that many people believed were aimed at his on-and-off nemesis Kanye West. “Diss me so long ago, we making your memories fly/ I’ll probably hold a grudge against you guys ’til I’m 75/ Ayy, ni**as lyin’ for a livin’, I couldn’t relate/ We all gotta lay in the bed we make, but that couldn’t be Drake/ You forced a lot of fake love when real ones stood in your face/ That’s why you got deserted by your ni**gas like puddin’ and cake,” he rapped. Check out the video below.
“8AM In Charlotte” is the newest chapter in Drake’s fan-favorite timestamp record series. It began with 2010’s “9AM In Dallas,” followed by 2013’s “5AM In Toronto,” 2015’s “6PM In New York,” 2016’s “4PM In Calabasas,” and 2021’s “7AM On Bridle Path.” He even allowed 21 Savage to take on his own timestamp record on their November 2022 collaborative album Her Loss with “3AM On Glenwood.” Notably, “8AM In Charlotte” is not available on DSPs; it is solely accessible via the video on his Instagram page or fan-made audio rips on Soundcloud or YouTube.
For All The Dogs is set to release on Friday (Oct. 6) after being pushed back from the original drop date, Sept. 22. He shared the single “Slime You Out” featuring SZA on Sept. 15 and revealed that Nicki Minaj will be featured on the album early on during the It’s All A Blur Tour with 21 Savage.
For All The Dogs will mark the third consecutive year that the part-time crooner releases a studio album. In 2022, he shared Her Loss and the dance-inspired album Honestly, Nevermind within five months of one another. This all came after his September 2021 album Certified Lover Boy and May 2020 commercial mixtape Dark Lane Demo Tapes, signifying his highest rate of musical output since the run of albums from 2015 to 2018. Check out his latest single “Slime You Out” below.
