Drake is serious about providing “summer vibes” for his fans following the Kendrick Lamar beef, and he’s tapping a producer who has helped make some of his recent summer-feeling hits. The 37-year-old rapper appeared in a photo with Gordo this past weekend to promote their upcoming music.

“You guys ready for summer 2024…,” the producer formerly known as DJ Carnage captioned the photo. The 6 God is seen sitting next to him and putting up the middle finger. The 33-year-old producer has been an important part of the equation in recent years as he produced “Currents,” “Calling My Name,” “Sticky,” “Massive,” and “Tie That Binds” from the Toronto superstar’s 2022 dance album Honestly, Nevermind.

Most recently, Gordo also produced “Gently” featuring Bad Bunny and “Rich Baby Daddy” featuring SZA and Sexyy Red from Drake’s latest album For All The Dogs. Given the energy and popularity of those particular songs, this may be the most ideal collaboration for Drizzy to provide good music and smooth over his negative perception after bowing out of his feud with Lamar.

Drake first teased that he had “summer vibes” on the way earlier this month. He shared a photo of a knight standing alone as a cavalry of soldiers approached him. “Good times,” he wrote. “Summer vibes up next.” This post came one week after he and Lamar released a barrage of diss records, namely “Euphoria,” “6:16 In LA,” “Family Matters,” “Meet The Grahams,” “Not Like Us,” and “The Heart Part 6.”

The “summer vibes” post aligned with the energy he gave off on “The Heart Part 6,” where he seemingly tried to shift the narrative in his battle with Lamar. He claimed that he planted a mole in OVO to give K. Dot false info about his alleged second child and use of Ozempic. His tone conveyed a sense of disappointment that the DAMN artist would take the bait, and he urged him to find real information to use.

At the end of the record, he referred to the tense battle as “some good exercise” and said it was “good to get out, get the pen workin.'” Fans, however, did not believe his claim that he planted the information and interpreted “The Heart Part 6” as him giving up on the back and forth. His “summer vibes” post was treated as him officially waving the white flag.

Drake is no stranger to taking over the summer with his music. In 2019, he linked up with Chris Brown for the Grammy-nominated record “No Guidance” which was a standout contender for that year’s “Song of the Summer.” One year prior, he released his June 2018 album, Scorpion, which included “God’s Plan,” “Nonstop,” “Nice For What,” and “In My Feelings.” He also appeared on Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode,” which is certified Diamond by the RIAA.

Who can forget Summer 2016 and the trio of Rihanna’s “Work,” “Controlla,” and “One Dance”? Those three records, all of which Drizzy was part of, are regularly meme’d by social media users and regarded as three reasons why 2016 was the best year of many people’s lives. It will be interesting to see if the five-time Grammy winner can recreate, or outdo, his track record of summer success.
