Drake Posts Lil Wayne Photos After Kendrick Lamar Secures Super Bowl Halftime Gig In New Orleans
With Kendrick Lamar being announced to perform at the Super Bowl LIX halftime show, and fans being upset that Lil Wayne wasn’t picked to take the stage in his hometown, several theories have been flying around. One expected certainty was confirmed this week when Drake took to Instagram to support his mentor.
The 37-year-old rapper didn’t say a single word; instead, he shared photos of Weezy F Baby. The New Orleans rapper was shirtless in both photos, sporting an incredulous expression in the first and an angry scowl in the second. He also posted a photo of a much younger Wayne wearing a Black leather jacket and du-rag, plus two photos of him gambling.
While Drizzy’s approach was a lot less chaotic than Nicki Minaj’s, his message was clear: the “Fireman” rapper was done wrong. With these posts, now the 6 God, Queens rapper, and Birdman have all expressed themselves in defense of Weezy.

On Monday afternoon (Sept. 9), Birdman took to X to air his grievances about Lil Wayne not being picked for the Super Bowl LIX halftime show in New Orleans.
“Smfh,” he wrote in his first tweet. “These ni**az Pu**i @NICKIMINAJ @Drake @LilTunechi YMCMB. I’m make these ni**az respek us on Gladys *goat emoji*.” He closed off his brief rant by calling the decision “Hatin sh*t 4real.”
Minaj, on the other hand, took a very direct and incendiary approach by targeting Jay-Z. “Denying a young black man what he rightfully put into this game for no other reason but your ego,” she wrote on X. “Your hatred for BIRDMAN, Drake & Nicki got you punishing Lil Wayne?!?!!! LIL WAYNE!!!!!!!!!! THE GOAT?!!!!!!!!!!! Nola what’s good?!!!!!! Eminem stood firm on having 50Cent come out. A white man. Sh*t sad. House NI**ER TINGZ. but it’s GOOD FI DEM!!!!!!! No loyalty ? Welp. then ni**az will keep son’ing you!!!!!”
She also clarified that people did not need to pick sides in the situation. “You can love & respect Kendrick and still love & respect Wayne,” she wrote. “Even Kendrick loves & respects Wayne. Every real rapper loves & respects Wayne.”

Juvenile, a fellow New Orleans rapper, took to Instagram to express his thoughts on the matter. While he was disappointed, he directed his anger at the NFL instead of Jay-Z specifically. “Look, I’m mad about the situation just like y’all, but my hatred is towards the NFL — not really the people that booked the halftime show,” he asserted. “I’m mad at the people that hired the motherf**kers that booked the halftime show!”
He pointed out how 11 Super Bowls will have taken place in New Orleans come February 2025, but they never once picked someone local to the city to perform. “I feel like every time y’all come here, y’all should have somebody from our city on the sh*t,” Juvie said. “But this time it really hits hard when you don’t have Lil Wayne on the show. I don’t see how the f**k y’all don’t have Lil Wayne doing the halftime show. Somebody that has a whole bunch of f**king hits and somebody that really deserves it and somebody that can bring out multiple artists of all genres. Think about it.”
