Drake Rants About “Real Friends” And “People Turning Their Backs” During Recent Performance
Drake has had many revelations over the last several months, primarily stemming from his feud with Kendrick Lamar, Metro Boomin, Future, and more. The 37-year-old rapper ranted about his “real friends” and those who turned their backs on him during a recent performance in Toronto.
Drizzy attended Tyrone “T-Rex” Edwards’ Nostalgia party in “The 6” this past weekend and performed for the crowd. Before performing, he had some thoughts to get off of his chest. “My real friends are definitely in the building,” he said. “But let me tell you that you’re going to come to a point in life where people you thought were friends, or people you thought were close to you, switch up. They might stab you in the back. They might do a lot of things to you.”
The father of one acknowledged that it doesn’t happen at the same time to everyone, and some people in the crowd may have experienced betrayal already. “You’ll come to that realization wherever you’re at in life,” he added. “You’ll probably be there or been there — that’s how life is. Sometimes it’s you and you alone, by yourself. Sometimes, it’s you alone with your thoughts.”
This speech was timely as it came days after Drake went on an unfollowing spree on Instagram. Some names, like Kendrick Lamar and Rick Ross, came as no surprise given the fact he exchanged diss records with them in April and May. However, other names like Playboi Carti and LeBron James were unexpected to some people. Carti recently appeared on “Timeless” with The Weeknd, another artist that the For All The Dogs rapper recently feuded with, so perhaps he took that as the Atlanta artist picking a side.
As for the Los Angeles Lakers superstar, their friendship goes way back to when Drake released his seminal 2009 mixtape So Far Gone. However, recently, Bron was spotted at Kendrick Lamar’s Juneteenth Pop Out concert and had a friendly debate with Steph Curry about “Not Like Us.” Drake supported Team USA’s success during the Men’s Basketball tournament in the Olympics, but he noticeably left LBJ out of his posts.
Another person he unfollowed was DeMar DeRozan, whom he was close to when he played for the Toronto Raptors. DeRozan appeared in K. Dot’s “Not Like Us” music video and made multiple public statements about having love for both of the “Poetic Justice” rappers. It is unclear where their relationship currently stands, but it is safe to assume they aren’t on the best terms.
Drake has been silent musically for the last month or so. In August, he unloaded six new records as part of his 100 Gigs dump for fans. Those songs included “It’s Up” featuring Young Thug and 21 Savage, “Housekeeping Knows” featuring Latto, “Blue Green Red,” “Circadian Rhythm,” “No Face” with vocals from Playboi Carti, and “SOD” without Lil Yachty.
