Dramatic upset on 'The Four' as a relatively new contestant is crowned champion
Evvie McKinney was on a roll during the finale of The Four Thursday night after just joining the show last week. The panel of experts and the audience loved her performance of Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary,” which meant she got to pick who she wanted to challenge — and she picked Zhavia.
Zhavia was the favorite most of the season so she wasn’t about to back down. She took off her boots to perform Rihanna‘s “Man Down,” while DJ Khaled got his popcorn out to enjoy the show. Evvie meant business as she sang her next song right at Zhavia, and the crowd was eating up the drama. Both women gave it their all, and DJ Khaled was loving every minute of it. “I’m gonna run out of horn,” Khaled said as he blew his air horn again, “You know what I’m saying? And the popcorn came out, like — I don’t know what to do.”
Khaled, Diddy, and Meghan Trainor debated for a few minutes about who should win, and they eventually picked Evvie. She then faced off against the other finalist, Candice Boyd, who also took on a Rihanna song. But in the end, Candice just didn’t have staying power. Diddy announced, “I really feel that we found something special that I haven’t seen in a long time. And her name is … Evvie.”
The Four airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on Fox. Watch clips and full episodes of The Four free on Yahoo View.
