Drew Barrymore and Jeff Bridges have a mini “See You in the Morning” reunion on talk show: 'It goes so fast'

She also dressed up for the occasion as Bridges' legendary character, The Dude.

It was a Livingstone-Goodwin family reunion on Tuesday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. 

More than 35 years after starring onscreen together, See You In the Morning costars Jeff Bridges and Drew Barrymore caught up with one another on her talk show. And, naturally, Barrymore dressed up as The Dude, Bridges’ legendary Big Lebowski character, for their chat. 

“Do you know what inspired me to dress like this? Not only to pay homage to one of the many most iconic characters that you’ve played, but this is how I dress everyday of my life when I’m not in professional mode,” Barrymore explained, before cutting to a clip of her similarly dressed in a hoodie, sweatpants, and flip flops. “This is my mode!” 

Bridges happily replied, “I dig your mode!”

Barrymore then explained the pair's shared film history to the audience, noting that it had been over 35 years since they starred in the 1989 rom-com together. A surprised Bridges replied, "Isn’t that... it goes so fast.”

Written and directed by Alan J. Pakula, See You in the Morning follows the complicated love story between Larry Livingstone (Bridges)— who has recently split with his wife, Jo (Farrah Fawcett) — and widow Beth Goodwin (Alice Krige). The pair then turned around to look at an image of the fictional family on the screen behind them.

“There’s Macaulay Culkin as a kid, Lukas Haas," Barrymore said, pointing out their costars, "and then I am 13.”

Barrymore starred as Cathy Goodwin, one of Beth’s children, with Haas playing her brother Petey. Culkin, on the other hand, portrayed Larry’s son Billy.

“I was his daughter in the film and I have to say, because I didn’t have father figures except for Steven Spielberg — which is probably the best father figure anyone could ever have — but I loved working with you because I was like, ‘He looks like such a nice dad,’” Barrymore recalled. “It just feels nurturing, empowered, [and] joyful.”

“Don’t you feel that with just acting in general?” Bridges asked. “As actors, you show up, you want to create that safe atmosphere as soon as possible because you’ve got work to do!”

Barrymore agreed with his sentiment wholeheartedly, grabbing onto Bridges’ hands as they spoke.

“Me too!" she said. "I always take everyone in and I hold their hands and — I’m real touchy-feely, everybody knows this about me, in a non-creepy way — but yes, I literally am like, ‘We’re gonna do this together.’”
