Duffer Brothers Series ‘The Boroughs’ Casts Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters, Bill Pullman

The Netflix supernatural mystery series “The Boroughs” from creators Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews and executive producers the Duffer brothers has set a star-studded main cast.

Variety has learned that Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters, and Bill Pullman will all star in the eight-episode series, which was greenlit at the streamer back in April 2023. It was also revealed that Ben Taylor will direct multiple episodes, including the first, in addition to executive producing.

The series’ logline states, “In a seemingly picturesque retirement community, a group of unlikely heroes must band together to stop an otherworldly threat from stealing the one thing they don’t have… time.”

Molina will play Sam in “The Boroughs.” Molina is known for his roles in films like “Frida,” “Boogie Nights,” and his appearances in multiple “Spider-Man” films. Davis will play Renee. She previously appeared in the Netflix series “GLOW” and in films like “Beetlejuice,” “Thelma & Louise,” and “A League of Their Own.”

Woodard will play Judy. Woodard received an Academy Award nomination for her role in “Cross Creek” and previously starred in the Netflix-Marvel series “Luke Cage.” O’Hare is best known for his roles across multiple seasons of “American Horror Story” and for films like “Dallas Buyers Club” and “Garden State.”

Peters will play Art. Peters starred in Spike Lee’s Netflix film “Da 5 Bloods” and memorably played Det. Lester Freeman in the HBO series “The Wire.” Pullman is known for films like “Independence Day” and “Spaceballs” and for his starring role in the series “The Sinner.”

Molina is repped by WME, Lou Coulson Associates, and Anonymous Content. Davis is repped by CAA, Untitled Entertainment, and Hansen Jacobson. Woodard is repped by CAA, Circle Management And Production, and Gochman Law Group. O’Hare is repped by Innovative Artists and Agence Adequat. Addis and Matthews serve as executive producers and showrunners on “The Boroughs” in addition to creating it. The Duffers executive produce along with Hilary Leavitt under their Upside Down Pictures banner, which is currently under an overall deal with Netflix. Taylor will direct and executive produce.

The series marks a return to Netflix for Addiss and Matthews, who previously co-created the Netflix series “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance,” which aired on the streamer in 2019. Their other credits include the feature “Life in a Year” and the upcoming animated film “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.”

The Duffers are currently prepping the fifth and final season of “Stranger Things.” Among their other projects, it was announced in July that they will executive produce the Netflix horror series “Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen” From Haley Z. Boston
