Dukes of Hazzard star meets with fans during Pottsville car show Saturday

Aug. 10—POTTSVILLE — Dukes of Hazzard star Tom Wopat, along with other cast members, arrived in Pottsville on Saturday to celebrate the 24th Annual Great Pottsville Car Cruise.

Wopat, who played Luke Duke on the hit 1980s television show, along with Jeff "Huey Hogg" Altman and Byron "Coy Duke" Cherry, all sat outside the Humane Fire Company, on Humane Avenue, in downtown Pottsville to long lines of fans waiting for their chance to meet the cast members.

"It's so nice to see everyone out here today," Wopat said. "I was here last year and this thing just keeps growing."

Wopat and the other cast members signed autographs and took pictures with fans of the show, which ran from 1979 through 1985.

Wopat said he still speaks to cast members Ben Jones, who played Cooter, John Schneider, who played Bo Duke, and Catherine Bach, who played the Dukes' cousin, Daisy Duke.

"We see each other a lot," he said. "It's always great to catch up with them and see how everyone is doing."

Cruise Chairman Joe Spotts said he was thrilled to see nearly 200 classic cars, the cast members and the amount of people who arrived for the event.

"It's great we keep getting bigger and bigger," he said. "We are thankful for all the support we receive from the community."

Wopat was also scheduled to meet with fans at Big Diamond Speedway, at 392 Forest Lane, in Pottsville, Friday evening, and sing the National Anthem but the event was canceled due to weather, officials said.
